Robert De Niro, 2011 chair of the Cannes Film Festival's selection jury, announced the winner of the Palme d'Or at Sunday's closing ceremony in the South of France.'Tree of Life,' a 1950's drama starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, and directed by Terrence Malick, won the prestigious top prize. Two producers accepted, reports CBS News.
Pitt appeared at the Cannes screening of 'Tree of Life' last week, but has flown with Angelina Jolie and their family to Hollywood this weekend for Jolie's 'Kung Fu Panda 2' premiere, so he was unable to attend the film fest's closing ceremony.
And although controversial director Lars von Trier was banned from Cannes events after Nazi and Hitler remarks he made at a festival press conference, the star of his latest film, Kirsten Dunst, won the trophy for Best Actress.

HA - EXACTLY. IF they hate it, I am sure it has to be good!
it's all about looks now a days like all film festivals award shows are. the last time an honest to goodeness Iconic actress won the best actress prize at Cannes was 1973 when Joanne Woodward won for the film adaptation of Paul Zindel's 1965 Pulitzer prize winning play The Effect Of Gamma Rays On Man In The Moon Marigolds. Pitt is nothing more than an overratted pretty boy who will never have a career as long and fruitful as Woodward or her laste husband Paul Newman who had won best actress at cannes himself 15 yeas earlier for their first film acting together Long Hot Summer of course in the 77 years of cannes theres only been 76 festivals it was cancelled in 1968 because of protests over the vietnam war

It's not only whack job Bible thumpers that hate the film, but whack job Jennifer Aniston fans that can't get over the fact that he dumped Jen 'butter face' Aniston for a real actress.

I can only imagine how bad this movie is if it has both Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. They are both dirty, boring, and disgraceful human beings, as well as over-rated for their ability to act.

Don't have much to care about the movie one way or the other, it is Brad that I wouldn't watch if I was paid to see him. And I am Christian. Would be open minded to see what is said if ANY other actor was in it.
