'United States of Tara' Out, 'Nurse Jackie' In

'United States of Tara' is coming to an end. Showtime has canceled the Toni Collette comedy. According to
Variety, the third season, which is currently airing, will be the last.
Meanwhile fellow comedy 'Nurse Jackie' has been renewed for a fourth season and freshman period drama 'The Borgias' has also been rekindled for a second season.
'Tara' follows Collette as a suburban mom and wife who struggles with dissociative identity disorder, or multiple personality disroder. The show, which is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and the Oscar-winning writer of 'Juno' Diablo Cody, landed Collette an Emmy. However, the series has been shedding viewers since its premiere.
Variety reports the series has been averaging 326,000 viewers after its original Monday broadcast and 1.9 million viewers when repeats, DVR playback and on-demand service is counted. It's a decent number for a cable show, but it's 30 percent lower than the show did last season.
'Nurse Jackie' has suffered in the ratings department, but not as drastically as 'Tara.' Its first-run numbers have bounced between 400,000 and 600,000 viewers, but the series averages 2.8 million weekly viewers when DVR playback, on-demand and reruns are factored in. Star Edie Falco recently took home the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy.

PLEASE do not cancel Nurse Jackie. It's one of the finest TV shows on. It's the only reason I ordered and kept Showtime. Edie Falco is may favorite actress. Superb talent. Also - if anyone is listening - KEEP Breaking Bad. It's on AMC and is beyond amazing.

Another setback for Diablo Cody to go along with "Jennifer's Body". Will Cody go down as just a one hit wonder with "Juno"?

What a shame...US of Tara is one of the greatest shows ever! I was amazed week after week by T.Collettes ability to make each and every one of her characters so absolutely believable. Super sad to see this fine series end. Will be rethinking my continued subscription to SHO.

what an absolute ignorant thing to say. I suspect you are as ugly on the outsde as you are on the inside.

I'm SO disappointed that "U.S. of Tara" is being cancelled; it ALWAYS happens to me! Remember "Huff?" It was an AWESOME series, but it, too, was cancelled and there never was a finale to wrap things up...
Well, at least "Nurse Jackie" will return. And I pray that "Shameless" will be picked up again as well. With my luck, that, too, will be cancelled!!

This is such a bummer. I love United States of Tara. It's really well acted and has some great characters. I understand there's only so far they can go with this premise, but I'll miss it. I love the Kate character. She's adorable. Boo Showtime!

That really sucks. I am a fan of both shows but US of Tara is by far superior. I really do not understand how anyone could think Nurse Jackie is better than Tara - it isn't even close.
