That's It: Final 'Oprah' Episode Tapes in Front of 'Skittle'-Colored Audience

It had to end. The last group of brightly dressed daytime disciples filed into Harpo Studios in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon and witnessed the final taping of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' The episode, to air Wednesday, continues to be a tightly guarded secret and fans were only notified about their lucky break (imagine the free gift) on Friday or Saturday.
Promos for the episode ask "Where were you?" and "Where will you be?" for the finale. For the lucky few, the answer was "At the show."
"You think about how many billions of people around the world watch her and want to be here," Sarah Cranley, 32, told the AP outside. "What are the odds?"
Another fan, Jackie Polk, told the
New York Times that ticket-holders were instructed to wear brightly colored clothing, so that "We all look like a bag of skittles."
Some were initially told that the taping would be on Monday, but that date was later pushed to Tuesday. No matter, fans simply changed their travel plans to accommodate the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Keeping with the secretive vibe, the finale was closed to the media and there are no plans to release excerpts from it.
Winfrey's bestie, Gayle King, milled about with the fans and interviewed several of them with a camera phone. "I have such mixed feelings about it," she said about the show's end.
Since you do not live under a rock, you are aware Winfrey is leaving her show after 25 years to concentrate on OWN, her fledgling cable network.

Her audience will watch her go. Then have Oprah withdrawals. Then subscribe to her greed network and she will OWN them.

This is kind of surprising, being that I was at the May 11 taping at Harpo Studios and Oprah came right out and said this is my last taping at Harpo Studios ... so why say that, if it was not true? I must add that I am a little disappointed that we were led to believe something that just was not true.

I will miss everything about her and her show ... her show, her great clothes, her amazing stories, and how she always, always, always had a good show, no matter what the topic was.

Oprah has done so much for so many. How many of you haters can say that? Yes, she has made money. Isn't that the American way?
I say, hats off to Oprah and much luck in your future endeavors.

Mr. Murray,
We don't hate her, we just think all of this has been a bit over done, that's all!
Yes, she has made money .. but has shared it and has made the world a better place by showing women that they can be as/ more successful than men and has shown women of color that they are every bit as wonderful as white women (contrary to what history has done to their self-esteem). She has done more with her success than the majority of people in Hollywood. I praise her for her strength and endurance... Wish her the best!

Has anyone or anything ever been pictured on the cover of her magazine other than herself? You know, the magazine called (what else?) Oprah?
Reply
Yes. Ellen DeGeneres and Michelle Obama.
And to the rest of you - you have a choice!
If you do not like Oprah, you can still change the channel or turn the page in a magazine she is featured in.
But most of all, I have never understood anyone who has a negative opinion of someone else, but still takes the time to read the article about them and then take even more time to write offensive remarks. Shame on you!
