Randy Jackson on 'Idol' Finale: 'Scotty's Probably Got a Slight Edge' (Video)

Randy Jackson snuck away from 'American Idol' during this finale week to sit down with 'Chelsea Lately.' Chelsea Handler took the opportunity to talk to him about the new judges and ask his predictions for the finale.

"They're a little bit warmer, a little bit sweeter," Jackson said of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. He intimated that it might be because they are current artists, and perhaps can relate more readily to what it's like to be in the contestant's shoes.

Surprisingly, Jackson was willing to make a prediction as to this season's finale match-up between Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery. First, he said that he suspected this would be the final two from the get-go. But then he said, "I think probably Scotty's probably got a slight edge; a very slight edge."

We'll have to wait and see for sure, but our gut tells us he's right about Scotty having a slight edge going into this final performance show. Lauren is going to have to come out strong and stay that way throughout the night.

Scotty is so phony and creepy. Those looks and stares . And that Alfred E. Newman/George Dubya mash-up face. Plus, he's not genuine country; all he does is try to MIMIC genuine country.

Georgia, exactly what is "genuine country"? I have listened to country since the 60's and observed how country music has evolved through the years. In terms of 'genuine' country, American Idol finalist, Scotty and Lauren Alaina, are far more genuine country than Sugarland, Lady A, Rascal Flatt, Steel Magnolia, just to name a few. If looks covers how good a person sings, Lady Gaga wouldn't have made it on the pop scene.

KW...these boards exist so that the general public can post their thoughts and criticisms. So, your point, other than to post a "witty" oneliner?

By genuine country, I meant he does not seem real to me like most country artists. I feel he speaks and acts like he THINKS he should, but it's not genuine.

As for Gaga, she's actually very pretty. Look her up without her costumes, etc. But she's more performance art, and that's part of her appeal to many.

I couldn't disagree with you more about Scotty. He's very genuine with with incredible range and authenticity. He does look like Alfred E Newman though. ;-) So does Pres. Obama and look where it got him.
James was the phony. He was like a kid who won a trip to "rock camp." He held a guitar as a prop while pretending to be Robert Plant and other heroes of his. I think the show has pushed Lauren along about as far as they could with "no fail" songs like Unchained Melody Nice voice, but too fat to be dancing around and patting her butt like she weighs 100 lbs. Scotty has won America.Last word, Jacob was the best He got bad songs for him and lousy advice.

Let's remember that Scotty and Lauren are still kids. The basic talent is there but is still raw and needs to be developed as they mature. This is only the beginning for the both of them. So much depends on what happens from here on out.

Worst. Season. Ever. Though I stopped watching long ago, between the two, I hope it's Lauren.

You are sooo right this is the worst season ever and I don't think the next one will be any better. Simon was need for his honesty and and musicial ear, Randy has no talent so how can he judge, Jennifer can barely sing, and the show has turned into one big advertisment.I wish Randy would take his Dawg and go for a walk off the show

James and Pia would have been an awesome finale, i would have even taken James and Jacob over this one. Please let Scotty win, i can't stand to see that Alaina anymore!

As far as I am concerned,all the great singers are gone. Not worth watching anymore. The voice has far better talent on it than Idol.If Scotty wins WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

Once American Idol got to the Top 10 it became very interesting .. I thought this was a very strong field overall for talent .. the best talent has succeeded to the final ...Country as a genre is without question the strongest in the marketplace ..
Tonight should be a great contest and I hope that America gets it right with their choice.
The judges are a little too sweet for my taste but thats what they wanted this year ...the harsh reality of Simon was very much appreciated ...

Judges should stop predicting whos going to win the american idol.

This type of voting at American Idol is now a joke. Look who are voting and ended up with two final candidates singing country music. Both are mediocre at best. Bad judging from the judges including Randy Jackson. You can tell from Randy body language that he never liked Haley from the very start. He just tolerated her. We don't need more of the Carrie Underwood or Pickler.
to prove the point, guess what became of the last 2 years winners. Failures and forgotten.

I like both Scotty and Lauren. Both have good voices but they are still untrained. I wish Haley had been in the finale. She's good to go with a voice that's sheer heaven. She was already signed by Jimmy Iovine and Interscope for recording.
