Spoiler Alert: Country Singer Wins 'American Idol'

After a record-breaking 122 million votes, we have a winner in what has been one of the most hotly debated seasons in 'American Idol''s 10-year history.

With the addition of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez to the judges panel, and record industry mogul Jimmy Iovine mentoring the Top 13 every step of the way, some fans agreed with executive producer, Nigel Lythogoe, who labeled this season's contestants the most talented ever.

Still others have bemoaned the light-handed judging of Lopez, Tyler and last-standing original judge Randy Jackson. No matter how you see it, it's hard to deny 750 million votes, the total cast during this 10th outing and the most of any season of 'American Idol' ever.

Both Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery have endeared themselves to America but only one could take the crown tonight.

I think this has been the best Idol to date. Tonight was just over the top. I really believe it was very close in votes. To me, they both were winners. Also, I feel this was the best group of talent I have ever seen on Idol. Good luck to both.

zzzzzzzzzzzz. you give ppl a big mac and a pair of nikes and they are happy, or in this case, entertained. so this dopey show 'american idol' produced another polished turd..ah, er dime. who cares?!!!!!

I think Scotty is so GREAT!!!! he will do well. Lauren is good also, she will not be far behind. Look how well Kelly Pickler did and she came in 6th. She is one of the the top 5 money winners of American Idol.Thank you C&W fans you are the greatest.

I didn't watch hardly any of this season of American Idol. I just can't get into it since Simon left. He was AWE-SOME!!! I'm totally gonna watch the X-Factor though!

The show was good this year, the kids were all talented and I enjoyed having judges who didn't insult the contestants. I loved Simon but there are ways to deliver advice without being cruel and he hated country music and would have been brutal to Scotty and Lauren. Congratulations to all the contestants, I hope they get music careers especially James Durbin.

I've been watching Idol since season 1 and think that this is one of the BEST seasons ever! Much better talent and judges doing much better! Scotty won hands down but both were great singers! I'm glad that people are seeing that Country is also an important part of music. Scotty will eventually be HUGE when he gets going singing country music. Congrats to everyone!! I hope the same judges are back next year. This year was the most watched ever!

I guess growling is talent now? Scotty and Lauren both deserved to be in the finale and I'm glad Scotty won. He's an all around American boy with an AMAZING voice.

You people that are judging the finalists by weight, SHAME ON YOU. You sound like George Lopez when he kept making fun of Kirsty Alley. You people and George too, need to know that you can always lose weight but, you can't get rid of the ugly and George is UGLY (where did he get a mug like that?)and so are those making fun of Lauren. What kind of mothers raised you people that have to be so mean?

So many of the Idol finalists and winners are in the "where are they now" category: Fantasia, Ruben Stoddard, even Elliot Yamin...only one or two big stars have lasted: Underwood, maybe Daughtry. Too many have gone through the washer and dryer of fame and came out shrunken and wrinkled.

I like AI, but I could only watch it in small doses this year. Having Jennifer Lopez as a judge ruins it for me. I watched maybe 3 or 4 shows this year and missed the finale. I knew Scotty would win.

Prior years of American Idol, some of the singers have given me goosebumps. Not this year. That hasn't stopped me from watching it every week. The judges were too kind; I'd prefer Simon's approach, honest and right on. Congratulations to Scotty and to Lauren.

I really thought James should of won, as he ALWAYS gave a great
performance... Having said that, I am Glad Scotty won. He proved over the weeks, that he can sing more than just country, but as the judges kept telling him, if it works, don't fix it. Lauren is good, but I was afraid she was going to win, as a girl has not won in awhile. That would of been the wrong reason to have won.. Although I am so glad Lauren was able to sing,as when she lost her voice, the producers were going to have Halley replace her. Thank God, Lauren got her voice back. She will be fine. I am glad for Scotty.
