Chelsea Handler Admits Abortion at 16, Loathes '16 and Pregnant'

She may be raking in the laughs now, but Chelsea Handler's life wasn't always so comical. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Handler divulged that she had no choice but to get an abortion when she discovered she was pregnant at 16 years old.

"I had an abortion when I was 16. Because that's what I should have done," she said frankly. "Otherwise I would now have a 20-year-old kid. Anyway, those are the things that people shouldn't be dishonest about."

But Handler has no sympathy for today's youngsters who broadcast their teen pregnancies to the world.

"We're seeking out such grossness in human behavior and want such mindless entertainment ... '16 and Pregnant.' Getting rewarded for being pregnant when you're a teenager? Are you serious? I mean, that makes me want to kill somebody."

Another thing that gets Handler riled up? The way she is characterized in the media. Although she is aware that her honesty is exactly the reason why she is often pegged as a "raunchy" comedian, Handler doesn't care for the moniker.

"That's my least favorite word, raunchy," she said. "Men are more apt to use that word about women than women are. I think that's why my audience is so female-heavy. They cheer you on, whereas men are, like, you're not supposed to talk like that."

Like her humor or not, at least Handler is an equal opportunity satirist.

"I try to make fun of everyone as often as possible, especially minorities," she said. "I'm a Jewish woman, so ..."

disgusting. she says i did what i should have done. if she feels that way, what sheshould have done was not get pregnant. mature thing to do and the unselfish thing to do is to have it and give it up for adoption. why should the baby pay the price . disgust me

It can be a mature thing to do. Look at the people having babies now. What kind of life are they going to lead? People are having babies when they don't even have enough money for diapers and grow up on the street and are abused. Look at the woman yesterday who was trying to pimp out her 13 year old daughters virginity. The show 16 and pregnant is pathetic and should be taken off the air. It is not a good thing to glamorize. Especially since these little brats are getting "famous" and all they did was be loose and stupid. That is what disgusts me. I know it is easy to say,"Don't get pregnant." But sometimes things happen. It is good to have the options. An early term abortion is one of the smartest things for some people to do. Oh and also, learn some grammar. There is such a thing as capital letters you know.

Well, marcc, sometimes accidents do happen. The majority of teens are having sex, and they are not mature and do not always make mature decisions, She was 16, not 32 for gawd sakes. Chelsea is not my favorite entertainer by a long shot, but she made the decisions that worked for her at the time, and it is legally available. So easy for a guy to put her down for it. Not a decision you would ever have to face, and how many teens boys do you think would step up to the plate? Also so easy for a guy to think, just go through nine months of pregnancy, which is no picnic, and then give it up. Thankfully for Chelsea, it wasn't your right to decide for her.

Who among us at 16 and often much older, have maturity, have not been selfish or done "disgusting" things? But, a 16 year old pregnant teen and her boyfriend/baby daddy are selfish and disgusting wwhen we glorify it with a t.v. show and send out signals that encourage this behaivor. Whether it's reality t.v. or welfare that provides the financial support these families need; babies are being born to babies who can barely take care of themselves. Chelsea Handler is right on the money with this one. Just for stats here. I am pro choices and had my son before I married his father, we divorced after the birth of our second child and I had little more to give them then basic needs sometimes. Thankfullly I had an amazing mother and emotional and spiritual support system. But in NO WAY was I prepared to be the mother all children need. Those kids on that show need to grow up and focus on the priority right under there noses.

I totally agree!!!! I thought the wording was disgusting!! Don't make the baby pay for your mistake...Yes, look at all the ridiculous people having kids....GIVE THEM UP to people who are good parents and will raise them to be great people.

You're the one thats not too bright. If a person beleives the fetus is a living human being, they are bound to stand up and say something. Obviously Chelsea has no feelings about the sanctaty of life. She even stated that she feels like killing someone who got pregnant at an early age. It's that type of morals that got us where we are, killing the unborn so we can have a better life, excecuting criminals etc. Who gets to decide who lives or dies. We should all stand up for life. One day someone may decide it us who should die. Actusally, that is happening all over the world now.

Every abortion involved two human beings, one who made bad decisions and now has to resort to murder to remedy the situation and one who is innocent and is about to be snuffed out. This argument about women having control of their bodies is so bogus since they already had control of their bodies before having sex. So, if that is a valid argument then why can't the fetus have control over it's body. The answer is that it doesn't have any power so it is totally at the mercy of bully mother!
