Chelsea Handler Admits Abortion at 16, Loathes '16 and Pregnant'

She may be raking in the laughs now, but Chelsea Handler's life wasn't always so comical. In a recent interview with
The New York Times, Handler divulged that she had no choice but to get an abortion when she discovered she was pregnant at 16 years old.
"I had an abortion when I was 16. Because that's what I should have done," she said frankly. "Otherwise I would now have a 20-year-old kid. Anyway, those are the things that people shouldn't be dishonest about."
But Handler has no sympathy for today's youngsters who broadcast their teen pregnancies to the world.
"We're seeking out such grossness in human behavior and want such mindless entertainment ... '16 and Pregnant.' Getting rewarded for being pregnant when you're a teenager? Are you serious? I mean, that makes me want to kill somebody."
Another thing that gets Handler riled up? The way she is characterized in the media. Although she is aware that her honesty is exactly the reason why she is often pegged as a "raunchy" comedian, Handler doesn't care for the moniker.
"That's my least favorite word, raunchy," she said. "Men are more apt to use that word about women than women are. I think that's why my audience is so female-heavy. They cheer you on, whereas men are, like, you're not supposed to talk like that."
Like her humor or not, at least Handler is an equal opportunity satirist.
"I try to make fun of everyone as often as possible, especially minorities," she said. "I'm a Jewish woman, so ..."

If you don't have any adopted children then shut your traps! If you're so opposed to abortion then get to it right now, start adopting. Put your money where your mouth is.
Accidental pregnancies are going to happen, regardless of whether the cause was irresposibility or not. They always have and always will. If you have an abortion once and learn from your mistake, great. We all make mistakes. No one should have to raise a mistake, it's not fair to you or the kid. You're either pro-choice or anti-choice. Who here doesn't like choices?

Sounds like
Nobama, who didn't want his daughters to "be punished with a mistake". Yikes..it's no wonder that here in Chicago, there are shootings and killings on the street each night..no respect for human life. AND..it is not mine or anyone else's responsibility to "put our money where our mouths are" and adopt. PERSONAL responsiblity is what it is all about..don't plan on anyone else raising or paying for baby if you get pregnant. I had a few pregnancies scares in my youth,too...I would have raised the baby on my own. The very thought of a doctor approaching me to kill my child is something that makes me shudder. And for those of you who say it's "not yet a child"....well,it eventually will be UNLESS interrupted in it's growth by human hands. Bless the very young out there who were told by Planned Parenthood and all the rest that it is okay to have an abortion and then had to live with the pain of killing a child later. Abortion kills two spirits.
Linda, no it does not "kill two spirits". You want to create this idea in your head that it's some much bigger deal than it is.
This is how it works: "oops (shoot, crap, darn...make it personal), I'm pregnant. I'll have an abortion...insert 5 minute long procedure here... wow, that was a close one. I'm glad that little mess is over with and I can learn from my mistakes and move on with my life. Now what am I going to have for lunch?"
The thing is, most people who choose to adopt an infant have to wait at least a year after going through a lengthy screening, including home studies, interviews with people they know, etc, to have a child placed with them. And if you already have children, well, good luck adopting an infant. The birthmother gets to screen and have the final say in who adopts her child and she can choose to maintain contact or not if she so wishes. There are so many families anxiously waiting to adopt. Sadly, many older children do linger in the foster care system. But the children lost to abortion would almost certainly have a home available. And maybe you wonder about foreign infant adoptions? Countries have caps on those, and so people have to wait a long time to adopt foreignly.
I work with women facing unplanned pregnancies every day. Sometimes they are in really tough situations. But that doesn't change the fact that within 21 days of conception, there is a beating heart, and, of course, that they are a unique individual whose genetic code will never be repeated. The world misses out on that person every time a baby is aborted. Life has value. Not only the life of the in-utero child, but also the life of the mother and the father of the baby. It actually disgusts me the way people have refered to Chelsea in this forum. I disagree with her, but she is a person like the unborn we hope to defend, and therefore is endowed with dignity. To call someone a derogetory name is to try to take away a piece of their humanity, to reduce them to less-than status, and I think that is horrible.
My organization also have post-abortion counseling. Not only do the babies lose thier lives, but many women's lives spiral out of control, either right after the abortion, or sometimes years down the road. Many women don't feel remorse, but sooo sooo many do.
Even though it's legal, it doesn't make it right (see: slavery, banning interacial marriage, etc).
Wow at least Steven Tyler when talking about his abortion with his ex girlfriend was sorry about it. Steven knows that he made a mistake and owns up to it. Chelsea on the other hand wears her abortion as some sort of weird badge of honor. There is no honor in killing children. Chelsea google 'Silent No More'

Did you take 5th grade biology? Steven Tyler doesn't have a uterus.
Choices?? What choice did all the babies that are aborted have...seems they had none!!!!!

The surprise is not the abortion...the shock is that someone went to bed with her....as a "grown up", she is even more repulsive.

SURPRISE!!! NOT. She sleeps with blacks and we celebrate her murder.

I wont judge her for having an abortion but, I do find huge fault with her claiming she had no other option. She may have felt she had no other option but, please Ms. Handler show some responsibility and at least own up to the fact that you (more than likely) had other options but went with abortion. (I am not simplifying the decision as if it is not heart wrenching but, don't feed us the bs that you had no other choice)

Why are we surprised by this? We were already aware she had an abortion, her show.

Look everyone has their own opinions but the bottom line is, we are lucky enough to live in a country where it is our choice to make those types of decisions. She was smart enough to make the right choice for her. It was twenty years ago, get over it!

Men are the root of most problems.

No big fan of CH, but I believe in a woman's right to privacy, decisions they make with their families, their doctors and their male counterparts (if they're in fact present and concerned). It's nobody's business but her own.

Yeah, makes her want to kill somebody... like she did her baby.

For an American, there is only one rational way of looking at the abortion issue: If you are against abortions ... then don't have one.

you did kill somebody
