It was a packed hour as 'American Idol' kicked off its finale week one night early.
Assuming everybody remembered to tune in, they were treated to three songs each by the finalists, and even a special performance by a former 'Idol' winner.
The final round of singing featured new songs that would become the respective singles of Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina should they win the competition. But we have a sneaking suspicion both songs will get released anyway.
McCreery was given 'Love You This Big,' which was a little kitschy in the title and premise, but allowed him to showcase both the low end and the higher end of his register; a fact that was appreciated by judge Randy Jackson.
"Scotty, you are here, you are in it to win it," he said. "It is game time. And dude, I'm proud of you because you've grown through this contest, and that was a brilliant vocal."
The judges seemed keen to give the edge for the night to Alaina, though they admitted it was by the slightest of margins. It's hard to discount McCreery's tremendous fan base.
Will he be the fourth young guy in a row to win 'American Idol,' or can Alaina break up the boys club.
I hope Scotty wins; they sure did their collective best to throw him under the bus today. I was a James fan but Scotty was consistent, not like Lauren. They're hoping for another Carrie Underwood so they've pushed Lauren in our face this time.
Two things were missing from tonight's show -- James and Haley. I have nothing against Country music but this show was horrible. It was like the Grand Ol Opry without the fun. I liked Scotty's Gone when he did it before but this one was really dry. Neither one of them have any real effective range which is why Lauren blew out her vocal cord. She doesn't have it. The judges warned Pia about too many ballads -- but what was this thing??? They need to have an AI spin-off -- Country Idol -- this whole show was a one-trick pony.
james had been my favorite from the beginning but on the whole i'd say the top 4 were equally talented & all will do well with their individual music careers so it doesn't really matter who wins tonight. i loved the show!
I love Scotty and I know he'll have a great carrerrrrrrr! I hope he never gets caught up in the aftermath, he has A GREAT PERSONALITY and if he does like ELVIS DID AND ALWAYS THANK YOUR FANS, HE WILL GO FAR. LOVED SEEING D COOK, WISH THEY WOULD HAVE D ARCHULTA AND HIM PERFORM, THEY WERE GREAT TOGETHER. GRANDMA
America got it right. Scotty was (and I hope will continue to be) true to himself and God. He is a role model that our teens & children need. I know we all make mistakes, but we need to take a look at the music, lyrics and what they are telling our children. Scotty stay on the right path. Be Blessed my friend!!
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
