'American Idol' Winner: 'I'm on Top of the World!'

After being crowned 'American Idol' Season 10 champ last night, teenage country singer Scotty McCreery headed backstage to talk to reporters about his momentous victory. How does it feel to be crowned 'American Idol'?

McCreery told 'Entertainment Weekly' that "[It] feels absolutely amazing. I mean, I'm on top of the world right now. It's just a moment I'll never forget."

The 17-year-old said that while he had allowed himself to dream of winning the title, he'd managed to push those thoughts to one side and concentrate instead on the competition.

"You've got to control that. You've got to focus on what's ahead and focus on the song you're singing that week. Luckily, it's gotten me here."

McCreery faced off against his "close friend" and fellow country singer Lauren Alaina for the title, and he was crowned after a record-breaking 122 million public votes were tallied. Alaina may have captured judge Jennifer Lopez's vote with her performance the night before, but she couldn't match McCreery's huge fan base.

So what's next for McCreery? "I'm looking forward to getting out there on tour with 'American Idol Live' tour, and I'm really looking forward to getting my album out there, recording some songs, and getting my music out to the fans quick as possible."

But first, famous or not, he's still got some prior commitments from his old life: "I'm still in school! I've got a test to take on Friday for English. I'm still 17. Still a high school student."

American Idol this year suck. Scotty is so nerdy and I cant stand country music. I dont even watch the show that much anymore. I only like Steven Tyler on this show. There really isnt any talent to speak of on Idol anymore. I do watch the The Voice because these people can see and I like the judges.

I don't know what you were watching, but they had more talent this year than in years past. Evidentally you don't like country music, it's not my favorite either, but they were good, especially being so young.

He is not nerdy. Just NORMAL looking. Anyway, he deserved to win. It is a singing contest and his voice is unique and beautiful.

I think the finale show was great and though I wanted Lauren to win. Lauren could do very well in country/pop. I'm not a fan of Scotty's "old style" country songs, but I admit he's talented and polished for such a young boy. Lauren will do well once she learns how to perform on a stage. She has a great voice.

Last night's finale was amazing and I absolutely thought Scotty was such a sweet young man and so humble. I'm not a fan of country music, but I am a fan of Scotty and Lauren. Two terrific young kids with manners and respect and by those standards, they were BOTH winners last night.

Anybody who is intimidated by Lady Gaga is in the wrong business. On second thought, I see him doing alot of Republican fund-raisers.

Congrats to Scotty. I really thought Lauren (my favorite) would win but it appears she accepted second place graciously. For both of them being so young they really held it together and did a great job! Congrats to both of them. I'm sure Lauren will go far too!

I was so glad that it came down to Lauren & Scotty. Two talented young singers and down to earth. They are both going very far in the music business. I'm glad that Scotty won, I'm sure it was close. Even if you don't like country music, he has a natural born talent with that voice. I will buy his music. I'm a country girl at 69 yrs. old. Love the music.

Anyone who says Lady Ga Ga is not talented has not seen much Lady Ga Ga. She is a highly trained musicain in various instruments and is a phenominal song writer. Her quirkiness is called performance art. It's an art form that opens one up to express themselves artistically in interesting ways unique to each artist. You may not like it but to say she is not talented is ridiculous.

Maddie: You don't have to like him but must you be so mean spirited. Geez. I did want him to win but I have nothing bad to say about Lauren. Scotty is more of a decent human being than you can ever aspire to be. You could take a lesson from him about how to be a decent person. Just sayin.

If you wanted Lauren to win you should have voted more.I liked Lauren but I think Scotty deservrd to win because he has more natural talent.I think they will both go very far in the music industry.And also he deserved to win because America voted him the winner.Lauren seemed very happy for him also.That showed she is not a sore loser and has the confidence to know she will make it.Congratulations to both Scotty and Lauren,you are both winners in my book.
