After being crowned 'American Idol' Season 10 champ last night, teenage country singer Scotty McCreery headed backstage to talk to reporters about his momentous victory. How does it feel to be crowned 'American Idol'?
McCreery told 'Entertainment Weekly' that "[It] feels absolutely amazing. I mean, I'm on top of the world right now. It's just a moment I'll never forget."
The 17-year-old said that while he had allowed himself to dream of winning the title, he'd managed to push those thoughts to one side and concentrate instead on the competition.
"You've got to control that. You've got to focus on what's ahead and focus on the song you're singing that week. Luckily, it's gotten me here."
McCreery faced off against his "close friend" and fellow country singer Lauren Alaina for the title, and he was crowned after a record-breaking 122 million public votes were tallied. Alaina may have captured judge Jennifer Lopez's vote with her performance the night before, but she couldn't match McCreery's huge fan base.
So what's next for McCreery? "I'm looking forward to getting out there on tour with 'American Idol Live' tour, and I'm really looking forward to getting my album out there, recording some songs, and getting my music out to the fans quick as possible."
But first, famous or not, he's still got some prior commitments from his old life: "I'm still in school! I've got a test to take on Friday for English. I'm still 17. Still a high school student."
Scotty is awsome. He deserved to win. All the other contestants were very, very good this year. And Lauren was awsome too. Scotty had our votes from the very start. I would love to hear him sing "The Dance" by Garth Brooks and my sister would love to see him wear a hat. All in all, he is is "AWSOME". We wish him a wonderful future. Stay meek and humble, Scotty!
This is just another reason to not watch Idol anymore...They promoted scotty as the christian contestant and they let the christians in this country once again blast the phone line...It is not a test of talent...half the people I talk to say they don't care to watch anymore because it is not about talent anymore
Gary~ All references of Scotty " Thanking the Lord first cause he's the one who got me here" have been edited out both on AOL and American Idol's official videos. I congratulate his Parents for raising a fine, well-adjusted, God-fearing, law-abiding , productive citizen of the future. Not every parent can make that claim. Scotty stood out during Hollywood week when he took-in contestants who were evicted from their groups and would lose their chance to audition. Just a plain salt-of-the earth intrinsically good human being. Hope he stays that way.
When did Scotty stand out from the pack 1) when he took in strays during Hollywood week, 2) Second when he refused to play Seacrest's game of " picking which group to go stand with."(the winners or those who were the lowest votes. 3) And thirdly, when he deferred the coin toss to his oppenent. Scotty's the kind of kid every parent wants their daughter to bring home. Love ya Scotty!
Well, you are certainly in the bottom of the group if you think Scotty did not deserve to win. His raw talent holds no bounds. The men of country music will move over a little and make a space that Scotty will fill nicely. Just because someone does not make you personally feel warm and fuzzy does not mean they are not loaded with talent.
You are too funny. How has being a Christian got anything to do with how good your voice is? Scotty rocked. I am sure other of the contestants were Christian also. Nothing wrong with that. It is just your reasoning that is flawed.
Gary - could you possibly get any more immature? Scotty won because he has the TALENT, not because he is a Christian. Does that even matter on a show like that? To him, yes it does, but it IS talent that drew most people to vote for him. All of you whining about Christians having success but worship that Gaga are in desparate need of a wake up call. Sorry you cannot deal with TALENT. Don't watch - as if anyone would miss you...seriously!
Scotty did not deserve to win, such a nerdy kid!!!!VERY BORING!!!! to say the least. All the good singers were eliminated, the people that really had the talent. The show is fixed, I read last month in an article that Scotty was going to be the winner. No more Idol,I will be watching THE VOICE from now on, far better talent.
Yesterday I went in the restroom at McDonald's, and someone had taken a dump in the urinal. I didn't know what to think. I had a similar reaction to Scotty winning.
I eat dinner, not supper. But you can help yourself to a heaping spoonful of Scotty's crap anytime, you midwestern fool. Just be careful not to spill any on your bible.
I love Marc Anthony he rocked the show last night. That is pure talent., Jennifer looks and dances great. I wish she would have performed, beside the dancing. Shelia E was super Hot on the drums.
Even though I was voting for Lauren., I'm happy Scotty won., I just wish he stop doing that side thing he does. Congrats Scotty. Lauren you are still a winner. God Bless.
The Voice is a very good show but you are so wrong about Scotty in my opinion. Why must people who don't like a singer have to be so mean. Are your shoes on too tight or something. AI or it's fans won't miss you a bit.
I've watched Idol for yrs. This one most talented kids&adults on show.People have different opions on it which their right, but don't be so mean about who won & who lost.Lotta things don't like in life but thats way things happen.Way go all contestants that made it ,that shows they have little talent.Good Luck in Life,I'm 67 yrs.old oldie but goodie..lol,lol....
America sure got it right. Only 17 but Scotty has won the hearts of America, no doubt it. It's many many years since we have seen a young singer and talent so very good. I still remember when Elvis started at only 18 and there were the same idiots who said he will never make it, but he is still the king of rock n roll. Scotty will be a Super Star and a Legend. He has the whole package. For only 17 he is the all American young man, very respectful, clean cut, humble, and religious. Hw will also be a great role model for our young adults to look up to and admire, and there arent many around anymore. Thanks go to his parents for raising such a fine young man and sharing Scotty with the world.

Scotty is a true artist. She is not polished at all and will never be the star that he will. Fact is she cannot sing very well.

Should have wrapped it and saved for supper. The rightful winner took the trophy.
