'American Idol' Winner: 'I'm on Top of the World!'

After being crowned 'American Idol' Season 10 champ last night, teenage country singer Scotty McCreery headed backstage to talk to reporters about his momentous victory. How does it feel to be crowned 'American Idol'?

McCreery told 'Entertainment Weekly' that "[It] feels absolutely amazing. I mean, I'm on top of the world right now. It's just a moment I'll never forget."

The 17-year-old said that while he had allowed himself to dream of winning the title, he'd managed to push those thoughts to one side and concentrate instead on the competition.

"You've got to control that. You've got to focus on what's ahead and focus on the song you're singing that week. Luckily, it's gotten me here."

McCreery faced off against his "close friend" and fellow country singer Lauren Alaina for the title, and he was crowned after a record-breaking 122 million public votes were tallied. Alaina may have captured judge Jennifer Lopez's vote with her performance the night before, but she couldn't match McCreery's huge fan base.

So what's next for McCreery? "I'm looking forward to getting out there on tour with 'American Idol Live' tour, and I'm really looking forward to getting my album out there, recording some songs, and getting my music out to the fans quick as possible."

But first, famous or not, he's still got some prior commitments from his old life: "I'm still in school! I've got a test to take on Friday for English. I'm still 17. Still a high school student."

CONGRATS SCOTTY FROM YOUR #1 FAN IN NEBRASKA!!!! YOU BOTH WILL GO FAR SO CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU FOR MAKING IT THIS FAR!!!! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!

I am a 65 year old young girl and I voted for Scotty. Great voice for a young man.

Scotty had absolutely no range. Sure he could sing low-sometimes- but it was always flat. Also, Scotty can't sing anything other than country. Give him a rock song a la Aerosmith or Guns 'n Roses and he's lost. Lauren was a more versatile singer and I think she could really be something special given a few more years. The final two should have been Haley and James, in my humble opinion.

Obviously you prefer "Rockers." James Durbin was awesome but Haley was a bit too snotty for my liking & was no where near the singer that James is. I loved Scotty's voice & am sure he will be a "star" as James will be. This 67 y/o Meema would have been happy to see either of them win. Too bad James was voted off as it would have been fun to see Scotty & James at the end.

What is wrong with having manners or being a Christian? Scotty and Lauren BOTH are winners!!!! They will both have outstanding music careers. They both care about the average, everyday person and they both know the values of family and friends. They will both remember who helped them to get where they are going, a TEACHER!! They both showed genuine concern for those who have suffered through the recent tornadoes and storms. Who knows, maybe they will do a benefit concert to help those in need. SCOTTY, LAUREN, SING ON, the rocks and stones themselves will be singing with YOU!!

If Lady GaGa is as talented as you think she is then she wouldn't need the quirkness and the vulgar costumes, all she would need is her talent.............And I don't see it. When she appears on talk shows she dresses the same way and she looks like a tramp. Not professional looking at all......just vulgar and acting stupid... this is her gimmick.
