Why Did Cheryl Cole Get Booted From U.S. 'X Factor'?

It's official: British beauty Cheryl Cole has been ousted from her judging seat on the U.S. edition of the 'The X Factor' in favor of Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger. Scherzinger previously served as a guest judge on the original U.K. version of the singing competition where she thoroughly impressed both producers and her fellow judges.
Cole rose to fame when she won a competition to become a member of the popular British girl group Girls Aloud in 2002. She signed on to become a permanent judge on
Simon Cowell's 'X Factor' in 2008, replacing Sharon Osbourne. The adorable starlet became an instant fan favorite, which also propelled her new solo career. Two years later, when she went through a very public divorce from her soccer star husband, Ashley Cole, in the midst of a cheating scandal, it only made fans love her more.
But her popularity didn't immediately translate when Cowell confirmed her as his first choice to judge the stateside version of his wildly popular show. The general consensus was "Cheryl who?" but Cowell stood by his choice, convinced she'd win over fans on this side of the pond as well.
FOX, which will begin to air the series this fall, apparently didn't agree.
Reports emerged yesterday that Cole, who quit the U.K. gig to focus on its U.S. counterpart, was getting the boot -- reports that were confirmed today. And now everyone is speculating as to what caused the shake-up.
The juiciest rumor to emerge is the obligatory "feuding divas" shtick. Media outlets are reporting that Cole and fellow judge
Paula Abdul (Cowell's former 'American Idol' judging nemesis) just didn't have any "chemistry." However, the two seemed to be getting along swimmingly when Abdul posted a photo of her and Cole on
Twitter in early May and called her "lovely."
But other reports paint a much simpler picture. FOX was concerned that her thick Geordie accent would just be too darn confusing for American audiences. Cole, who hails from Newcastle in northeastern England, actually endeared herself to Brits with her Geordie inflection. Upon hearing news of her ouster, comedian Russell Brand poked fun at the star exclaiming, "Our Cheryl? That cannae be right!" He added that she is "Britain's sweetheart."
Unfortunately, Cole won't have an opportunity to become America's next sweetheart as well.

Having lived in England for 15 yrs I can understand what she's saying but must admit she's got an 'uglier' sound than almost any Georgie I know. Plus I have to say again, Cheryl WHO??? or Cheryl WHO CARES!!

I could care less if she's on the show or not, i'm wondering why we can't have americans in these well paid positions. How many americans are hosting or part of shows in Europe?

blame American tv executives for giving cowell so much power...he`s loathed here in Britain.
As A flight attendant who travel this planet alot, let me answer that for you....NOT MANY.American news,tv shows, reality tv are all being taken over by non Americans w/fake accents.Don't believe me, check it you for yourselves.
I'm sorry, but I've never heard or seen Cheryl before today so it doesn't make any difference if she is on the show or not. At least Nicole I do know from DWTS. This is "American" X-Factor and not "British" X-Factor right? So let's have Americans on the show, not Brits. Simon is OK, as far as a judge. Remember how he self-described himself as not understanding American country music when he was on Idol? I'm sure that hasn't changed. Also, does he understand American Jazz? Probably not. This is why an American X-Factor needs American music judges.

I've been a fan of Cheryl's since discovering her in Girls Aloud several years ago. I've even had someone record and ship me the past seasons of X-Factor in the U.K.. I was really looking forward to finally getting Cheryl here in the states. For those of us who have discovered her, Cheryl is absolutely amazing. I have always really adored her strong accent. It is too bad that Fox didn't see fit to allow the rest of the country to "discover" our Cheryl. I won't be tuning into X-Factor this fall.

I don't know who this Cheryl is and don't care. People already make decisions without even watching it. WHO CARES? It's just a dam show. Get over it!!,,, Everyone kept saying that American Idol this year was going to be bad, well they were all wrong, it was the best year ever since the beginning. Last year's show was horrible. I am so glad both women left along with Simon. Don't know who this Cheryl is until today, and quite frankly my dear. "I don't give a DAM"!!!

I would have thought she'd be booted off because of the racism charge. That's all I know about her. Otherwise, who cares?
I love Nicole!

I think it was because she didn't allow her "booty" to be used by the proper power brokers in the industry.

THANK GOD. She's just mutton dressed up as lamb. Another Victoria Beckham wannabee. Send her back to Newcastle to the council estate that she came from.

She needs to pose naked and she will get a better role. (rolls eyes)

I am so glad fox, is smart enough to decide I would be confused by Cheryl Coles accent. I didn't realize I was so stupid, uneducated and unintelligent. Won't be watching X-Factor. I guess since out elected politicians keep telling us they know what the public eantss, FOX figures they are just as smart.

Well, this girl's strong Geordie accent would be strange to Americans; a deep one confuses many British people. That said, the screaming hyena laugh of Mary Murphy on YTYCD is only equalled by the Midlands accent of the British woman who hosts it. These shows would be better if those selected to appear were not loud mouthed, imprecise or plain weird. No doubt Cowell would prefer the whine of Ms.Osbourne; the insidious mewl of suburban London has destroyed the English language and its regional dialects in many parts so it is good to see Cole keep her regional twang.

it's a bit disruptive and too darn confusing for American audiences when I speak in tongues.

Really, it's because she is dating Derek Hough, and the producers thought he was bringing her down. They wanted her to dump him and she wouldn't and now they're booting her.

the problem is not that abdul and cole didn't get along. the problem is that the two female judges concept just, for whatever reason, doesn't work.
my belief is that potential negative gossip is just more of factor between two females than between two males or between a male and a female.
i realize this is both unfair and sexist, but don't blame me for the reality of the situation.

What the heck is a Geordie accent anyway? And why is it called "geordie" if it's simply a Northern British accent? And, foremost, who the heck is Cheryl Cole and why should we know who she is?
