Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy and girl have confusing split. Boy and girl awkwardly see each other post-breakup.

The song was inspired by the country superstar's run-in with an ex at an awards show (Joe Jonas? John Mayer perhaps?).

"Afterward, I just felt so empty, like we were both fighting this silent war of pretending we didn't care that the other was there," she tells MTV. "And I went home, and I wrote this song about it."

The setting of the clip, however, is not an awards show but rather a school library.
