Brad Pitt Opens Up About Parenthood, Marriage

With a daughter turning 5 this weekend (Happy birthday, Shiloh!) and just a few weeks until Father's Day, busy dad Brad Pitt is opening up in a new interview about family life with Angelina Jolie.

"The kids ask about marriage," he tells USA Today over a cup of cappuccino. "It's meaning more and more to them. So it's something we've got to look at."

The 'Tree of Life' star, 47, admits that fears about his six kids' safety "keep me up at night." Reflecting on what parenthood means to him, he explains, "Kids hold up a mirror to you....You can't make excuses. You've got to make sure they've brushed their teeth and eaten a good breakfast. You want to be present if they wake up with a bad dream."

A round-the-clock nightmare for the Pitt-Jolie brood? Paparazzi. "We're hunted," he says, "Our kids have to live behind a gate. Outside, there are people with cameras."

"But I'll take the trade-off," he adds. "I never knew I was capable of experiencing so much love."

Sharing a glimpse at how his large family manages a globe-trotting lifestyle, jetting between movie sets and premieres, the actor says the older ones are home-schooled, and he describes the Jolie-Pitt travel style:

"On the road, we're a military mobile unit.... The kids have got their stuff down to one backpack, and they're each responsible for their own bag. Mom does the packing. She's quite gifted at that; puts in just what we need, nothing extra."

"Angie and I do everything we can to carve out some semblance of normalcy for them, to re-create the kinds of moments that were special for us," he adds. "It's not unusual for the kids to be covered in paint. We have mud fights. It's chaos from morning until the lights go out, and sometimes after that."

And normalcy at home includes keeping love alive between Mom and Dad.

"There are no secrets at our house," Pitt says with a smile. "We tell the kids, 'Mom and Dad are going off to kiss.' They go, 'Eww, gross!' But we demand it."

Why do you have such strong feelings about someone you don't know? How much of that is about them and how much is about you? I'll venture a guess - its all about you.

Saying they are great parents is darn right insulting to anyone that parents 24-7. How the heck does any of us know they are great parents? And how easy would it be to just play with your kids if you had that kind of money with no worries and each of your kids had their own nannies. Get real folks.

Hmmm by the same token how do you know they're not great parents? Why someone should be insulted by that is beyond understanding. Do you begrudge others of positive traits when they have more than you? None of us know what really goes on it's all speculation unless you are there.

Well, all I can say is: they haven't been making news lately. Whenever celebrity couples don't make news and they want to hear about themselves, they either get married or divorced. But the most important thing is I REALLY DON"T CARE!

Every photo I see of this precious family indicates they are happy. As parents, their priorities are certainly in the correct order - kids first because if you don't take care of them and direct them, nobody will. It must be a wonderful life for children who are exposed to the love between their parents. Well done, Brad and Angelina.

LOL @ NYer. Is that the best you can do? Those are my feelings on that couple, period. You ask me why I have such strong feelings about someone I don't know? That's funny. You just formed an opinion about me and you have no clue who I am or what i'm about. You also seem to be in love with the brangelinas. What's with that? We can only go by what we read - any speculation is just that - and the contents of this article indicates they are great parents. So what if they have help.

Good parents, good people period.
So many people could take notes from this couple.
They have helped so many people in their few years together.
Brad is a great father, and Angelina is a great mother.
A piece of paper will not change that, if anything it ruins a couple.
wish this family all the very best.
They sure deserve everything good life has to offer.

A separate nanny for each child and we're gonna believe SHE packs for them? Really? They are both masters at self promotion (well, actually, I suppose it's their PR guys) - they were manufactured as a couple to feed the tabloids. And each time their "star" starts to fade (especially hers, which I've never figured out the basis for), they adopt another child . . . reminds me of mothers that get pregnant when their man starts to leave.
