Katie Couric to Host ABC Daytime Talk Show

It's official. After weeks of speculation, Katie Couric has officially announced that she will join the ABC family as host of a brand new syndicated talk show as well as with a role at ABC news. Couric's new show reunites her with her former NBC boss Jeff Zucker, who will produce the new series. The untitled show will debut in September 2012 and film in New York.

"I'm very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979," Couric said in a statement. "It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show with Anne Sweeney, the Disney/ABC TV Group and Jeff, and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division. I can't wait to be part of this incredibly talented, visionary team."

Couric anchored 'CBS Evening News' for five years after leaving NBC, where she had worked since 1989. While her new talk show doesn't debut until next fall, Couric will begin anchoring ABC News specials starting this summer. She'll contribute to ABC News across all platforms and programs.

Couric's new talk show will air on ABC's owned and operated stations at 3PM in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh/Durham and Fresno.

"Katie Couric is one of television's iconic figures and we are thrilled to have forged such an exciting partnership with her," Anne Sweeney, president of Disney/ABC Television Group and co-chair of Disney Media Networks, said in a statement. "We look forward to having Katie join the best News team in the business, and to working with her to create a dynamic and successful talk show franchise."

I think I will schedule my naps at that time. Maybe I will watch paint dry instead, thats more exciting than her.

Good thing I live two blocks from a movie theater, ABC has gone spot with the rest of the TV stations. I have had it witt the Reality Show and Talk Shows. I Public Library is four block away so when the soaps in there will be nothing to watch but the News and how much of that can one take. If you see the News once a day, that is enough. Who needs all those News Channels spouting the same nonesense day after day. Nothing original anymore. Bye Bye ABC, CBS, NBC and most of the rest of the lineup.

Once the soaps are gone .. I will NEVER watch ABC again! I hope everyone that agree's does the same. If ABC can afford Katie they should have put their money towards saving our soaps!

I can't believe that you would take General Hospital off the air for boring Katie Couric. I watch GH eveyday as do many other soap fans. Is it not bad enough that you took off the other two soaps now you have to kill off the lats one on ABC!!!!! I will never watch ABC again, especially KATIE COURIC. Why can't she go into Oprahs time slot? You really know how to destroy something good.

Um....does this mean General Hospital will go off the air?? Even though the show hasn't been that great, I would much rather have at least one ABC soap than watch more daytime crap.

Oh wow, isn't that wonderful. She destroyed the evening news on CBS and now the desperate ABC wants to force feed this boring has been on you poor souls. Don't watch and she'll be gone lickity split, none of the three networks can afford to lose more of their dwindling viewer's. The liberal networks are a dying breed stuck in the tar pits because they are now seen for what they are, biased liberal fossils. Say goodnight Katie, for good.

She appears to be a pleasant little lady but she has NO charisma and it's hard to understand why WE all see she is JUST not cut out to be a BIG DRAW for ABC and they don't see it. The NEW QUEEN of Daytime talk shows? Give me a break.

You have to be kidding !!! I will not be watching ABC at all, and from reading the other posts, It looks like alot of people feel the same way. ABC really needs to get there act together. I have watched GH for many years and sorry to see that it will be going off the air. Wake up ABC

please do not take away general hospital i have been watching gh for over 30 years we have enough talk shows if she must join abc please put her on at 4:oopm at opras old spot or if you can't put general hspital on at 4:00pm i can live with that.

Why on Earth would ABC give someone as boring as Katie Couric a talk show? She's terrible. I am not a soaps fan and not home during the day to even watch but I agree with all the other posters. Why wuold ABC pull long running soaps with many many viewers to plug unflinchingly boring KC in? No one will watch. No one! I wonder if she has a "goods" on or some sort of incriminating picture of an ABC executive? Maybe that's why ABC is stupidly giving her a talk show.
