She may be one of the most candid hosts 'The Today Show' has ever seen -- when Meredith Vieira takes her final co-host bow we won't only be saying goodbye to a beloved news anchor but to an occasionally crude but mostly hilarious morning show staple who's had us laughing for the past five years.
From talking dirty with James Franco to kicking co-host, Matt Lauer in his "peppercorns" to accidentally firing off a joke, while still on air, about a guest who was struck by lightning, it's Vieira's undying and often inappropriate humor that has raked in the viewers and made her the person that millions of Americans choose to wake up with every morning.
Check out our compilation of some of Vieira's most outrageous moments before she bids adieu to her seat behind the 'Today' show desk.
She has technical difficulties:
From joking that a man who survived being struck by lightning has a "slight glow" before she's off air to experiencing the extreme awkwardness of TV delay, Vieira isn't always a total pro, technically speaking.
She gets physical with Matt Lauer:
While rehearsing for a cooking segment with Martha Stewart, as usual, Vieira and Lauer were like two kids on the playground engaging in a friendly push and shove contest until Vieira took it below the belt -- literally. After attempting give Lauer a knock in the shin, Vieira aims a little high and kicks Lauer right in the "peppercorns" as an amused Al Roker pointed out. But Lauer eventually gets his revenge with, naturally, a frosting war.
She likes to talk dirty:
From insisting that her co-host isn't wearing pants to letting her potty mouth run wild while testing out a video game to telling James Franco she would "polish his statue" any day, Vieira is never at a loss for words -- even when her producers would most certainly wish she was.
Meredith is probably the most genuine woman on American TV. She will be sorely missed. My bucket list would include sitting down with her to just converse. She is beautiful in every sense of the word. Good luck and God bless.
ah...yet another conservative that can not stay on topic. "looney lisa" has a valid point. It's hard for you and your litte friends to stay on topic isn't it? I agree, go out and have some fun today. You live in the greatest country in the WORLD! (regardless of who is behind the wheel for the moment)
I LOVE Meredith ! News with humor & wit thrown in. I am afraid that The TODAY Show will now be the Yesterday Show. Meredith was truly an fresh new face. I was hopeful that Matt would be able to embrace her fully , but he was not big enough to do that . Meredith , the interview you did with Dan & Gil Harrington about their daughter Morgan was by far the best interview of a family with a child who was abducted & murdered. You were empathetic while still covering all subjects , even the ashes of Morgan's in Zambia mixed with cinderblocks for her educational wing & the pictures Morgan Painted with the reflection of the world in her eye. Bless you Meredith , You are loved by so many ! You HAVE to be back on somewhere soon ...I'm having Meredith withdrawals ! Frances Loper Corwin Tuscaloosa Alabama
Watching the tribute to Meridith this morning made it worth being a few minutes late to work. I have enjoyed spending the past five years watching her perform. I do think that Ann Curry will also do a good job and feel that to bring Katie would be a huge mistake.
It was my pleasure to direct Meredith in a stage production of INVITATION TO A MARCH at a theater in Providence, Rhode Island, back in March of 1979 when she had not yet left her hometown. She was a delightful young lady then and I have watched her successful endeavors all these years and have seen that she is still a delightful and talented young woman.
I bet Matt's wife is glad she won't be molesting her husband every morning. She can't keep her dirty mouth from getting sexual every change she gets. I am glad to see her gone. There is enough sexual talk everywhere without it being in your face first thing every morning..
Meredith was a breath of fresh air and will be missed. I do wish her well. Katie Couric and Ann Curry never came off as genuine, although they may be. I guess it's the end of watching the Today show.
Wow bee tell us how you really feel? You write like a 12 year old. And yet you call this woman dumb? She who speaks in broken sentences and clearly doesn't know squat about grammar should not throw stones!
good luck and best wishes. Getting the kids of to school wont be the same without you in the moroning. Enjoy our summer what a good byto a great person god show this amm
One down, three more to go. Next should be bumbling Al Roker, fool extrordinaire. Then smirking Matt Lauer. Finally Ann (no clue) Curry. The Today Show needs new blood. It's gotten stale and predictable.
Meredith was from RI; a small state with a big heart. I will miss her and hope she is back at some point in another venue that will feature her wit and wonderful personality.
Meredith - Maybe now you can take over for Vanna and do "Wheel of Fortune" or be a judge on "America's Got Talent". You need no talent to do either job. Nuff said.
LOVE MEREDITH WILL MISS HER. WE WILL STILL SEE HER ON THE MILLIONAIRE. SHE IS LEAVING BECAUSE OF HER HUSBAND'S ILLINOIS.
