Gwyneth Paltrow Gives Her Take on 'Homosexuality in the Bible'

Gwyneth Paltrow took on the controversial topic of homosexuality and the Bible head on when she wrote a post on her GOOP newsletter titled 'Homosexuality in the Bible'.

In the post Paltrow says, "A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible."

She continues, "This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, "Two mommies? How lucky is she?!"

The 38-year-old actress and singer then asks, "What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?"

Paltrow concludes by saying, "Happy pride. Love, gp"

E! Online is also reporting that the Oscar-winning actress also includes a couple of pro-gay writings from Episcopal priests as well as one from Kabbalah guru Michael Berg.

Paltrow also posted an argumentative piece against homosexuality from Dr. John Stott of All Souls Church in London. She also added a note before the piece which said, "We wanted as many perspectives as possible on this issue and so we are also including a more conservative voice here below."

Google "Why can't I own a Canadian" you'll find a slew of goodies from your friend Leviticus. Even the rest of the bible says you can own slaves and sell your daughters. Lovely handbook.

Don't care what anyone thinks. The bible is the largest selling book of folklore. Maybe personal accounts of history. Nothing more, nothing less. Just as many exaggerations as any celeb bio on the market now. The response that "it's god's plan" is used when there is no logical answer. You here it a lot less these days with modern medicine and science.

The Often Overlooked Rules in Deuteronomy

The book Deuteronomy also lays some laws down, but nobody ever mentions them, but why not take a look at those laws also?

Anyone who dreams or prophesizes anything that is against God, or anyone who tries to turn you from God, is to be put to death. (Deuteronomy 13:5)

If anyone, even your own family suggests worshipping another God, kill them. (Deuteronomy 13:6-10)

If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)

Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

This shows you that it really is scary that people want to make the Bible part of the law. Not to mention it sheds light on why Christians are so overly oppressive to those who don't share their belief. Sick, sick, sick. It can also be said that any person who uses the Bible to justify beating a homosexual, is a hypocrite if he doesn't adhere to all of these laws.

I don't think that Elton's child will ever want for anything, as he has two warm, wonderful dads who love him very much, one who can sing to him in that rich velvet voice, and he can have any matierial thing that he will ever want and will be able to travel anywhere that he wants to go. Hopefully he inherited his dad Elton's voice and talent. How lucky is he?

The children of gay couples have a hard time with their friends and in life in general. I know some of these kids and their parents have made life more chalenging than necessary.

I suppose that being gay is a choice... much in the same way that the slaves were given a "choice". Tracy Morgan is a moron. Humans do not deliberatly choose a difficult path for themselves.
I grew up in a house with two dads, long before it was "cool". My brother an I are both very happy adults and both are quite successful. My brother has 3 kids and I have one on the way. I wouldn't change one second of my upbringing... My life was no more difficult than any other kid's, in fact, we had it really good. We were cared for and loved and encouraged... and I never once asked "where's my mommy?" BTW: as for my "straight" mother and father... the state found it necessary to remove me and my brother from them... drinking, drugs, neglect and abuse. THANK GOD FOR MY GAY DADS!

How liberating. Those of us who have been burdened by believing the Bible to be the Word of God who created the world, can now toss it all, because Ms. Paltrow says so. While I detest the idea that people choose to use God's hatred for homosexuality for violence and hatred toward people, I will continue to stand by the belief that it is a sin. We choose to sin in whatever way it might be, and while we are to hate the sin, we are to love the sinner. If one cannot convince a homosexual that he/she is sinning, by lovingly sharing what Scripture has to say about the practice, then one should be praying for that person, not physically attacking him/her. Ms. Paltrow would be well advised to do a bit more study and look beyond her own understanding of what it means to be a believer.
