Just call it Tracy Morgan's worst nightmare: Same-sex partners on 'Dancing With the Stars'!!! 'DWTS' pro Mark Ballas endorses the idea, even with its disadvantages, and discusses with me the stereotypes of all male dancers being gay. For starters, there's only one on the hit ABC show, he reveals.
"We have eight male professional dancers and one is gay," Mark tells me. "I never dealt with the stigma, I was at a performing arts school, so it wasn't an issue. I always thought if I were ever confronted about it, I'd just say, "Well, while you're on the football field with a bunch of dudes, I'll be dancing with a bunch of girls."
Mark says straight men that are reluctant or just generally scoff at the idea of dancing should break out of their comfort zone.
"It doesn't make sense that men wouldn't want to dance," he says. "How can you not want to dance with your girl? How can you not want to do that?"
Mark tells me that his first choice of celebrity dance partner next season would be Royal sister, Pippa Middleton, but would be totally fine with the idea of being the first American cast member to dance with a same sex partner.
"I would be totally cool with it," Mark tells me. "There are other competitions where they have same sex couples. I'd support it. There is a slight inherent disadvantage. Two girls and two men just can't move like a man and a woman. But you can try."
Mark recently made headlines with a brief relationship with 'American Idol' standout Pia Toscano. Though it didn't last long, they did team up for a memorable "duet" of sorts on 'Dancing.'
He has finished third the past two seasons of the hit show, first with Bristol Palin and then again last month with Disney star Chelsea Kane.
So what about if he was partnered with Ricky Martin next season, "I'd be down!" says Mark.
Pick up Mark's great new album now, titled 'Hurt Love Box,' and watch the video for 'Hotwire':
The mentality of the audience that watches this kind of show is just hte kind that would believe that only ONE of 8 male "dancers" is gay...Maybe it should have been only ONE is straight...
Yep me to.....Do we have to be showered with PC????
It was bad enough to see Margaret Chow dancing with each other. She was awful.....Yet got lots of votes.. I think the dancing votes gets back seat to PC.
Don't let the door hit you in the a#s on your way out. By the way, that song/video are actually good. I like Mark and I think he would be the best one paired with a guy.
GEE WHAT A THREAT. ARE YOU GOING TO STOMP YOUR FEET AND POUT. GET A GRIP AND REALIZE THAT PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE. WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE? WHEN I SEE YOU HANGING ON A STAKE, I WILL BELIEVE YOU.
Dancing is a beautiful thing to watch, when done right. The fluidity between a man and a woman is very mesmerizing. People with gay inclinations have a right to live as they so choose to do. However, pairing two men...or two women on the dance floor of a very popular show will most certainly bring to it its demise. I'm sorry...I love "DWTS" very much but if gay partners start appearing on this show; I for one will no longer be watching this program.
I have always thought that DWTS was so elegant, and educational in introducing dance to so many people who have never given it a thought. I have watched since the first season, and the moment they introduce same sex partners, it would be my last time!
so by your reasoning, GLBT people have a right to live as they choose...BUT only if its not on your television screen? according to your reasoning, its perfectly okay to be GLBT - but only IF we maintain invisibilty and don't exercise our rights to live as human individuals?
it wasn't so long ago that the same type of arguements were being made about interracial couples.
that right there is definitely something you may want to think about, Mary.
i don't see what the big deal is,i'm betting if anyone has ever gone to take dance lessons especially ballroom their is a good chance you may practice with the same sex.dancing is dancing,it's beautiful no matter wwhat the sexes are
Fine with me. Gregory Hines and his brother were terrific dancing partners and great to watch. Just because he may dance with a man doesn't mean he is gay. And so what if he was. But I think he likes women.
i will not watch if they have same sex partners. i'm tired of seeing it on all the other shows. granted you can do what you want in private, but i don't want to see it on tv or anywhere else.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
