Teen Mom Amber Portwood in Hospital After Suicide Threat

After threatening to commit suicide, '16 and Pregnant' star, Amber Portwood, has been rushed to an Anderson, Indiana hospital, according to Radar Online. The 21-year-old teen mom was found by police in her home on Tuesday afternoon in an extremely depressive state.

Earlier, the mother of two-year-old daughter, Leah, had a disturbing phone conversation with the father of her daughter, Gary Shirley. Upon hanging up with his on-off girlfriend, Shirley advised a relative of Portwood to go to the MTV reality star's home to check on her. Instead, the relative alerted authorities to Portwood's potentially suicidal state and soon after, police arrived at her residence.

According to a statement, "Late this morning (11:34 a.m.), Anderson Police responded to a call at a residence in the 1300 block of Pleasant Meadow Drive. According to the caller, 21-year-old Amber L. Portwood was depressed and threatening to end her life. The victim, who did not appear to be injured, was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation."

But a source relayed to Radar that Portwood's state was a bit more dire.

"Two policemen arrived, found her face-up on the couch and immediately called for an ambulance," the source said. "When two EMT workers arrived, they removed the rope that Amber had loosely knotted around her neck. They tried speaking with her, but she was in and out of consciousness and couldn't respond; she was just moaning. They gave her an oxygen mask, put her on a gurney, and rushed her to the hospital."

Portwood's suicide threats comes on the heels of a difficult year for the reality star. After being caught by MTV cameras physically abusing baby daddy, Shirley, just last week Portwood plead guilty to domestic battery charges. She also temporarily lost custody of her young daughter in early May.

Although Portwood is still at the medical facility, she is reportedly conscious and stable.

I read Amber has been diagnosed with Manic Depression. It is a very serious mental illness and causes extreme highs and then extreme lows. My ex-husband has this illness and it is very tough to deal with. I hope people will be kind to her; You never know what battle people are fighting. Those who have all their synaps firing correctly should remember, "There but for the Grace of God go I."

Well, if she was 16 two years ago that would only make her about 18-19. So how is she 21??? Did MTV lie about her age??

Let me get this straight. She was 16 when she got pregnant, he was born in 1986...which made him 21 when he got here pregnant. This is Indiana law in regards to this:

§ 35-52-4-9: Sexual misconduct with a minor if a person at least age 18 engages in sexual intercourse with a child between ages 14 and 16.

The consequences? (1) Fixed term of four years with up to four added or two subtracted or (2) if the actor is at least age 21, a fixed term of 10 years with up to 10 years added or four subtracted.

How is this guy not in prison?

I see many of the people on here want to feel sorry for this girl... and Mtv should be kicked off the air... they keep putting crap like this on tv and dumb azz people watch it.... because there's just somethings that shouldn't be on tv....I could see if they did a doc. on teen preg..... but putting these nutty kids on tv isnt helping them or anyone else but Mtv.... and If she was really tryin to so called kill herself then she wouldn't have botched the job...

Shae, some of us live in the same town as Amber does and have witnessed her wonderfull parenting skills. We are judging her by her inablity to be a good parent, not what we see on t.v. Gary is no better.

She is just looking for attention. Her 15 minutes of fame are up and she wants to prolong it. I too have struggle with depression and anxiety for years. I also had suicidal thoughts but I never went through with it or announced to the world.If she really wanted to kill herself she would and not tell anyone. Shes a disgusting waste of space. She wants attention and more money from MTV and her own show. Get a life LOSER!

Amber is going through a lot. I dnt think people should put her down besides the girl is already going through hell. Depression is a hard thing to cope with. I been there & it sucks! hard to get out of. If I could help Amber in anyway I would in a heart beat! she needs friends & family right now. I feel bad for her & WISH HER THE BEST OF LUCK!!
