Fran Drescher Talks About Gay Ex-Husband on 'The View' (Video)

It's your typical American love story: boy meets girl, boy and girl get married, boy helps girl with wardrobe, boy says he's bisexual, boy and girl get divorced, boy says he is gay, boy helps girls with wardrobe and new boyfriend.

That's the story Fran Drescher told Tuesday on 'The View' about herself and her ex-husband, Peter Jacobson. And it's also the premise of her new sitcom, 'Happily Divorced.'

Drescher said on 'The View' that she did not know her husband was gay when they were married, she just thought he was metrosexual, which was trendy at the time. In hindsight, the advice on shoes and clothes may have been a tip-off.

When TVLand came to Drescher asking for ideas for a show, she thought her own story was a natural fit. "That's easy," she remembered saying. "That's got to be the relationship between myself, my gay ex-husband and the advice he gives me on my current boyfriend."

On the show, unlike in her real life, Drescher and her husband are forced to live together when they can't sell their house. She is hoping they can't sell it for about seven years, when they would be firmly in syndication.

Gay or bisexual men who marry straight women as a cover for the fact that they're on the down low are one of the lowest forms of life. If the woman knowingly enters a marriage with a gay or bi, it's one thing. She knew what she was getting. But when these men prey on often sexually naive young women, it is just plain cruel and devastating to the woman when she finds out.

A good friend's straight-laced Christian daughter had 2 children with one of these jerks before she learned that he preferred men and had been on the down low throughout their marriage. She was a virgin when they married so was extremely naive about what to expect sexually in a marriage. Considering that they were active members of a fundamentalist church that condemned homosexuality as a sin, when she learned he was gay, her whole world collasped when she realized her marriage was nothing but a fraud. No woman deserves to be so cruely deceived. I've always been a supporter of gay rights and have never thought homosexuality was a sin but I cannot condone using a woman to stay in the closet or to have it both ways.

Well, Holly, I suppose it would have been different for your friend if gays weren't treated like lepers in this country by the almighty religious hypocrites. Perhaps then your friend would have found a nice christian heterosexual man who would have taken her virginity, gave her 2 kids, and probably screwed anything that walked past him.

Mr. Brighton I take pity on you. The Christian life has suppressed your sexual preference but not your choice. It must be sad that you are treated like a leper at the hands of religious beliefs. Sadly we still live in the “good old days” when the country was ruled by heterosexual Christian white men who thought they had the power to control everyone around them. Gay spouse or not, all divorced couples could take a cue from these two. Loyalty and kindness seem to be their m.o.'s, which beats bitterness and blaming any day. Good for them for basing their ultimate relationship on an abiding friendship.

If this show is anywhere near as funny as the Nanny was then she has no worries about it lasting at least 7 years. As long as she has a good cast like in the Nanny it will be.
