Joan Rivers on Tracy Morgan's Homophobic Rant: 'He Shouldn't Apologize'

Tracy Morgan's apology tour is in full swing, as the '30 Rock' star visited gay homeless teens on Friday in New York (see photo
after the jump), in a GLAAD-endorsed meeting that also included relatives of hate-crime victims.
Morgan has been
under fire since June 3, when he allegedly told a Nashville comedy-club crowd of the violent reaction he might have if his son ever came out to him. Witnesses reported an act filled with
homophobic tirades.
Outrageous comic Joan Rivers, however, seems outraged by just one thing: "The biggest crime of all," Rivers says, "is that Tracy Morgan isn't funny. You know what he should be apologizing for? For charging $86 to see him."
Morgan's mea culpa is overboard, Rivers believes. "He's not a Mensa comic," she tells
The Daily Beast. "He's not the voice of this generation."
"He shouldn't apologize," she added. "Gay fans? What are they doing seeing him anyhow? Why aren't they watching me and
Kathy Griffin? What are they doing at this show? He's lost his [one] gay fan."
GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios disagrees wholeheartedly. "Returning to Tennessee and apologizing to those he offended is an important step in showing that Tracy truly understands the weight of his words," Barrios said. "In a state that continues to put anti-gay laws on the books, it's now more important than ever that we let Tennesseans know that homophobia has no place on or off the stage."
Comedy stars have been weighing in, from Chris Rock's back-and-forth
tweets on the matter, to Wanda Sykes'
analysis spreading blame beyond Morgan: "Tracy is just a dumb comic. I fault the TN lawmakers. They've created an anti-gay environment." Meanwhile, stand-up comic and sitcom star Jay Mohr seemed surprised that Morgan was still employed by '30 Rock,'
tweeting, "If I said what Tracy Morgan said, I would DEFINITELY be out of a job Monday morning. #Fact."
Some '30 Rock' co-workers have gone on record, including Morgan's boss
Tina Fey calling his rant "violent" and "disturbing" (
she added, "The Tracy Morgan I know...is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person"). Co-star Cheyenne Jackson was "disgusted and appalled," according to his
statement on the controversy. Meanwhile, NBC exec Robert Greenblatt said, "We do not condone hate or violence of any kind and I am pleased to see Tracy Morgan apologizing for recent homophobic remarks."
Morgan was photographed Friday at an undisclosed location, meeting with homeless gay teens to discuss their experiences.

ur hole sm..or is it s&m?
i totally believe that you are born gay, who in there right mind would put themselves in the position to be hated by so many so called straight people i think we should all live and let live, i have gay family members whom i love very much not because of what they are because of who they are and even if i had the power to change them i wouldn't , i am no Pollyanna but i really do believe in letting people live their lives

Sorry to correct your correction. The word homophobia is from the greek, homo, meaning same and phobia meaning fear. So it boils down to fear of your own sex. And fear of your own sex is a very sad condition.

You can blame holy than thou Tina Fey for making Tracy Morgan sit in with these gay-groups. She is the producer of the show and she obviously put pressure on Tracy to do this. Tracy probably went over board with his jokes but he should not back down from his beliefs that are also shared with most of the world.

Your living in the the dark ages stevie. Most of he world does not share these Klan beliefs.
The only reason Tracy is apologizing is the fact that if he didn't he probably would have lost his job. I don't think he's sincere or funny.
That being said, I think Joan is wrong. Tracy should have apologized. Maybe not in the tryhard over-the-top insincere way that he is now. No one expects a guy to go from saying he'd hurt his own son for being gay to going to see gay youths in a homeless shelter the next day. But Joan is kinda right - what gay fans did Tracy have?

He should apologize we should say NO! His apology isnt remotely sincere and he is saying its ok to kill gays even your own child. So if i think your kid is Gay i can kill him her! This isnt funny and this is worse than Mel Gibson or Kramers rant yet because he is Black special privileges..
Like I said an Azzhole

Ms Black thing,Thats because if a white person said what he said about blacks instead of gays they wouldnt be able to apologize they are automatically deemed racist and crazy.. He should be held to the same standards. Didnt imus lose his job for saying nappy headed girls.. Thats not even offensive yet tracy is saying its ok to kill someone who is gay and that includes your own child..

Anyone who gives birth to a girl (I think she's a girl) as ugly as Melissa Rivers cannot have an opinion on ANYTHING! Joan thinks Tracy's not funny-- and she's right. But he's funnier than she ever and he never produced an ugly child. So, STFU, Joan, and go back to selling crap that covers your face.
