Adele 'Ordered to Stop Singing and Avoid Talking' for a Month

Adele has been ordered by doctors to stop singing and avoid talking for at least a month as she seeks to recover from laryngitis, according to reports.

The singer, whose '21' album returned to the top of the Billboard chart last week, was forced to cancel her North American tour earlier this month after her condition showed no sign of improvement.

She wrote on her official website at the time, "I'm really frustrated. I was hoping with a weeks rest I'd be better to sing again straight away. However there is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctors advice and rest some more. I'm so sorry."

In part attributed to her inability to stop smoking, it now appears that her condition has yet to improve. A source was quoted by the News of the World saying (via Digital Spy), "Adele's voice is very special. But if she continues to abuse it in the way she has, then she could lose it completely. The problem is that she's now back in London and seeing her mates like the comedian Alan Carr, and all she wants to do is have a gossip with them."

I could hear from her voice that she was a heavy smoker, just like whoopie golberg... SUCH a TURN OFF !!!

I love Adele. She has a unique voice and it is very charming. Her music is not like the crap other people her age put out. I hope she seriously finds the strength to quit smoking. My grandfather smoked for years...tons and he quit and my mother quit. My dad quit the hard way...he just died of stage IV lung cancer. I hope she is able to get the help she deserves and can carry on. I look forward to more music from her!

I get that smoking is a coping mechanism, but there are plenty others that won't kill you. With all the info out there for the past 20 years about smoking, you have to be a) of low intelligence and b) seriously hate yourself, to start smoking in the first place.

It's called addiction and they get them started when they are young teens and don't make good decisions for themselves. Once they are hooked, it's hard to stop. I agree they should, i stopped after five years when i was ninteen b/c i was pregnant and it was so hard even with a good reason that i said i would never do it again!!

What better motivater would there be to quit smoking than facing the loss of your career? She is so young and has already damaged her voice. I hope she listens to her doctor and is singing again soon.

I LOVE her music I am so addicted to her CD. I missed her when she was in Denver recently it really bummed me out. She has incredable talent and I am so looking forward to more music from her. If you haven't heard her whole CD it is well worth the time to listen. Smoking is an insanely hard habit to quit. While there are alot of things out there that can help none of them work unless you are 100% dedicated to quitting. I quit 5 years ago after promissing myself I wouldn't be a smoker on my 30th birthday. It was hard but I did it cold turkey. My hubby was so shocked that I did it he too tried and succeeded only a couple months after me. Our kids tell us all the time how greatfull they are that we quit. It was the hardest thing I ever did and I still get cravings even 5 years later but I know I did the right thing. I hope she can do it too because her talent is real and would be a terrible thing to loose.
