After rumors that the gorgeous couple was on the rocks, it's official. Another one bites the dust in the wake of George Clooney's bachelor ways -- this time it's Elisabetta Canalis."We are not together anymore. It's very difficult and very personal, and we hope everyone can respect our privacy," the ex-pair said in a joint statement released on Wednesday.
We can't say we didn't see this coming. The Italian actress and model, 32, recently told an Italian magazine that she had no plans to live the bachelorette life forever and knew that she wanted to be married at some point -- a revelation that most likely sent Clooney, 50, who has vowed to never marry again, running.

George is going to end up old and alone. His looks won't last forever and family is what matters. Hopefully Matt Damon will take care of him when he's old...

I really am sorry for them both: Heartbreak is sad and rough, no matter who you are. Elisabetta knew the limits on this relationship going in, and I imagine that she, like many women who are falling in love, kept a candle lit in her heart that she would be the one whose love could convince George to marry again. I admit that I stayed in a relationship for 10 years, hoping that my younger beau--who said he "might not" ever want to marry--would realize that he did. So, so sad when he ended things; even worse when he green-card married a friend a couple of years later. Ironically, now I am the one to whom marriage seems unnecessary and even sort of odd. To George and Elisabetta, I say: Stick to your standards, but risk love over and over, until it settles in the way that is right for each of you. Good luck to both.
