It certainly has been a groundbreaking yet nail biting week for marriage equality in New York as same-sex marriage advocates have come within one Republican Senate vote to pass the marriage equality bill -- although the vote still has yet to take place.
But the hesitation to bring the bill to a vote -- on behalf of Republicans -- is not for the lack of trying and persuasion from our favorite LGBT supporting celebrities.
"I'd sure love to get married," Neil Patrick Harris tweeted Friday evening. "Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it."
Celebrities Push to Pass Marriage Equality Bill in New York

The LGBT community's resident mother monster, Lady Gaga, has also been fervently tweeting about the potential passing of the bill and urging her fans to call their local senators and ask them to vote yes to legalize gay marriage.
"I am so proud to be a New Yorker! One step closer to equality and toward the legalization of Gay Marriage in America. Full Equality. Unity," she tweeted. "NY State needs us, and the time for change is now," she continued to tweet.
Julianne Moore similarly urged her followers to contact their senate as did Lance Bass who hosted a phone bank alongside Russel Simmons last week, calling local legislators to voice their support for gay marriage.
Perez Hilton showed his frustration with the senate tweeting, "Separate but equal is NOT equal!"
Whichever way the gavel swings, this important step toward marriage equality and the support of the Hollywood community will serve as another rung on the ladder toward total equality.

@Sherwood... I am a woman, and YES, the ability to have a child is pretty much what makes a woman a woman - DUH! Just because some women suffer from infertily issues it does not make them less of a woman - but to act like infertile women somehow make it logically OK to call a man who got a sex change a "real" woman is just ridiculous and insulting to infertile women everywhere.

Shannon - I am a woman and I don't have or want children. That does not make me less of a woman. The world is already overpopulated, creating more waste, disease, and lack of resources. Having a baby does not define me or my sexuality. DUH!
If u have to construct a uterus, it isnt real.... also ever hear of artificial insemination??? that's why they call it that. A man is a man , not a women. If u want to have a baby marry a woman. I dont want to hear about infertile women .. how dare they!
HEY LOOK DADDY HAS A BOYFRIEND AND MOMMY HAS A NEW GIRLFRIEND.
KEEP IT IN THE CLOSET.
A MARRIAGE EQUALS A MAN AND A WOMEN AS KIDS NEED BOTH A MOM AND A DAD.
WHAT A SCREWED UP WORLD WE LIVE IN.
TIRED OF GAYS AND LESBIANS DECIDING WHAT A MARRIAGE IS !

Your being judgemental Dan and all of your claims which are lies and baseless. Gays man & man women & women would make great parents so you shouldn't judge if a kid may not have dad or a mom.
Dan, you said that kids need both a Mom and Dad. So I am guessing that you are an expert in rearing children and obviously a wonderful parent. I had a Mom and Dad for a while, then they divorced and Mom remarried a few years later. Again I had a Man and Woman as parents, but they were not very good parents. Oh, they sometimes went to church or sent us to church so they could have their alone time. I don't care what the sex is of a parent, they first have to have love for the child and then love the child. So anyone one with love in their hearts for children can be a parent.
Gays and Lesbians are not deciding what a marriage is Dan, okay. And Man and Woman are not doing such a good job at marriage anyway, so what has you so upset about the new law in New York? It's just about people receiving equal rights, my goodness it is 2011 and we as a people are still marching and marching just to get equal rights for everyone. Women had to march just to be equal with men to vote and etc., etc. Martin Luther King had to rally his people to march for their equal rights. It's just about equal rights, that's all. You have your rights everyday and I can just bet you never had to take one foot of yours and go march.
Celebs - spend your time helping those who need jobs, food, shelter. The basic needs - if you want to use your celebrity to get things done.

Boy do you have it backwards. No one is asking for special attention. They're asking for equality.

It should be called a Civil Union or other term. Marriage is a religious tradition and belief between a man and a woman. A civil union would have been a fair a respectfully resolution.
