Move over, Dr. Drew. After years as an actress with harrowing substance abuse battles, and a recent memoir detailing incest in her family, former 'One Day at a Time' star Mackenzie Phillips is reportedly seeking a fresh start with a new career: addiction counselor. This weekend, sources tell TMZ that Phillips, 51, is approximately half-way done with a certification program that would pave the way for what she hopes will be her new life's work helping others.
But that doesn't mean she's leaving show business altogether.
A reality TV show may also be in the works. Her journey to become a addiction treatment specialist is allegedly being chronicled for a cable series titled 'No Relapse,' produced by 44 Blue (the company behind MSNBC's 'Lockup' and Spike TV's 'Pirate Hunters'). Already, insiders say the show is attracting "strong interest from multiple networks."

Oh God...here we go again with another "reality" show. If Mackenzie Phillips genuinely wanted to make a change in her life and career by helping others with their addictions she would have done so quietly and privately. This is just another load of media driven crap to get back into the spotlight.

If she was truly in recovery, she would remain anonymous and not break the 5th, 6th, and 12th traditions...

Way to go McKenzie. Hopefully you can get Charlie Sheen and Ms. Lohan on your show before they have to bottom out any further. Keep trudging the happy road to destiny. Your beautiful.

That's great, but I just hope she's sober. Last time I saw her interviewed she seemed to exhibit much of the talk of someone who is still using (I am a certified rehab counselor). People in her family have been pretty firm in saying that much of her autobiography was fiction and that her father never molested her. Pretty terrible allegation to make against your father after he's no longer here to defend himself, especially if it didn't happen. Of course making that allegation in her book greatly increases the number of copies sold.
