Neil Patrick Harris Announces Engagement to David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris announced on Twitter that he is engaged to his long time partner David Burtka.

Following the New York state senate's passage of the Marriage Equality Bill on Friday night, Harris took to Twitter to celebrate the news and announce his engagement.

The 'How I Met Your Mother' actor tweeted, "It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!"

Harris also revealed that he was engaged to Burtka and they have been waiting for the right moment to reveal the news, "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."

After the bill was passed, a follower of Burtka asked him on Twitter, "So propose to your bf"

Burtka tweeted back, "I've already purposed, he said yes! Thank god!"

Burtka also revealed, "Neil and I have been wearing rings for years. We have been engaged for a while. It did not just happen."

Harris and Burtka are the proud parents of fraternal twins, Harper and Gideon. The babies were born in October 2010 via a surrogate.

Just before the New York Senate passed the bill to legalize gay marriage, Harris had tweeted, "I'd sure love to get married. Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it."

Looks like Harris got his wish.

Whatever happened to 'be nice' in this world? "Do not judge lest thou be judged". Everyone should have love in their life. Instead of being so judgmental (would YOU like it?), why not just wish them well?

You think there is screw up kids now , Wait a few years ,They will be so confuse and ashamed . Wait until the bullies in school or sociality get a hold on them . You thing the mortality rate among teennagers is bad now ; You ain't see nothing yet . This people are so selfish and self-centered with the pleasing "me" mentality ; They are in denial of what they are doing to their adopted kids. I always believe that two adults can do what they want with their life ,but not went it affect a child in a detrimentally way.

Yes, I supposewe're all going to have to get used to hearing traditional marriage terms for same-sex weddings. One hopelessly awkward thing that must be rectified: what to call your spouse. To have a "husband" and "wife" both with penises seems wrong, so descriptive and used-by-everyone words are needed--at least for the benefit of us heteros.

Here are the facts folks. There are some things I know and some things I do not know. One thing I know is that a person has no more control over their sexual orientation than they do their eye color. Those things are determined by your genetic makeup. People who are not gay do not understand being gay and that is normal and to be expected. One thing I don't understand is why God created roughly 10% of the population gay. I guess He just needed more musicians, artists and designers to make the world more beautiful. Obviously He created most people straight so as to populate the earth, but He had a purpose in creating gay people as well. Some day I hope to be able to ask Him what that reason is. I am a Christian and believe that the Bible is the "Inspired Word of God". It was also written by straight men with their own prejudices and predispositions on how they thought life should be. God does not condemn gay people in the Bible. Read it and see. He did not because they are of His own creation. End of discussion. P.S. Those who are the most vocal about hating gay people are those who are struggling with it themselves. Straight people who are secure in their own sexuality usually get along very well with gay people.
