Neil Patrick Harris Announces Engagement to David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris announced on Twitter that he is engaged to his long time partner David Burtka.

Following the New York state senate's passage of the Marriage Equality Bill on Friday night, Harris took to Twitter to celebrate the news and announce his engagement.

The 'How I Met Your Mother' actor tweeted, "It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!"

Harris also revealed that he was engaged to Burtka and they have been waiting for the right moment to reveal the news, "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."

After the bill was passed, a follower of Burtka asked him on Twitter, "So propose to your bf"

Burtka tweeted back, "I've already purposed, he said yes! Thank god!"

Burtka also revealed, "Neil and I have been wearing rings for years. We have been engaged for a while. It did not just happen."

Harris and Burtka are the proud parents of fraternal twins, Harper and Gideon. The babies were born in October 2010 via a surrogate.

Just before the New York Senate passed the bill to legalize gay marriage, Harris had tweeted, "I'd sure love to get married. Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it."

Looks like Harris got his wish.

Grandma...dear sweet grandma...how would you feel if one of your grandchildren was BORN gay??? Hopefully, if that happened you wouldnt be so hateful against him or her because of the way My/Your God made him or her

Thou shall not judge. The "F" word is of Jesus' vocabulary. You need to find salvation with God and Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Apparently you have no reading of the Bible, for Jesus says to love thy neighbor as yourself, but that does not include homosexuality. In Matthew 19:4, Jesus said, "They record that from the beginning, 'God made them male and female." And he said,"This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Since they are no loger two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together." We as God's people should help each other and mind their business when it means salvation and saving them from sin. God told us to go out and reap the harvest, for there is a large harvest with a few reapers, meaning we are to seek those who are lost and need Jesus as Lord and Savior to have eternal life. Don't have blastephemy against God and Jesus. Foul attitudes and language is only hate. When we speak against homosexuality, is a sin and abomination against God (Leviticus 18:22) it is not natural and it is a choice (Romans 1:18-24), we speak of God's and Jesus' Word of Truth and Authority, which is above all man's secualr rules and laws.

Why is so much emphasis put on glorifying homosexuality and gay relationships? Why is society trying to make this the "Norm"? Procreation is between a man and a woman. I believe in fairness but this issue is exaggerated. There are more issues that are just as important that society need to address.

Gay is wrong, and if you dont think so then something is wrong with you. Kids in high school are in gay relationships at an alarming rate, and this gay right BS is the reason. NEWS FLASH - It aint OK to be gay. Bible aside, there is something morally wrong with it. Now that they are all out the closet please go back in and lock the F-ing door behind you.

Congrats and best wishes to them both.Just gotta say,though,too bad Neil Patrick Harris is gay.He's SO good looking!

I really dont like the fact that I am going to have to explain to my CHILDREN about gay marriage. I should not have to explain to my CHILDREN about gay marriage. Maybe if gays could have children they would know how I feel. Maybe they would know how alot of Americans feel. for the record, Marriage never kept any gays from carrying on their relationships or having happiness with their partners. Some things are best left unsaid. Be gay if you want, but keep it to yourself.

Bible - Book of Fiction! Anyone can make up stories and put them in a book. The only difference now is when you write fiction hte library usually catagorizes it that way.

Michael, you don't have to explain it to your children, they have eyes and are probably smarter than your think, as long as some Prejudice adult in not pushing their opinions children are very accepting of other peoples differences. They learn to accept people for who they are by interacting with children of other races and religions in school.

what if one of your children was born gay. Wouldn't you want your child to live a happy life...without being called all kinds of vile names, not being afraid to being beat up, not being afraid of being disowned by the same people that bought him or her into this world. Wouldn't you want your gay child to have all the same rights as your hetrosexual child??

Life is too short. IMO, I would just like people to be happy together whether in a gay relationship or not. I feel that being born gay is a type of disability, no, same sex was not supposed to be, but it is! I don't think people choose to be gay, it certainly doesn't make their lives any easier.
