Is 'Idol' Thinking About Life Without Jennifer Lopez?
Insiders believe that
Jennifer Lopez's admission to the
BBC that she's "on the fence" about returning to 'American Idol' next season is nothing more than a ploy for a pay hike ... However, 'Idol' is already discussing possible replacements should they not be able to entice J.Lo to return.
"Right now the star of 'American Idol' is Steven Tyler," an insider source tells me. "Everyone thought after Simon announced he was leaving that [Lopez] would fill the void. How wrong were they? It's all about Steven, who's already signed on for season 11.
Jennifer, who currently earns a reported $12 million for her one-year deal with 'Idol' -- a touch below the $35 mil Simon earned -- needs to ask herself how much her contribution to the show is really worth.
"'Idol' has resurrected her much-stalled music career," one music exec tells me, referring to 'On the Floor,' the singer's first radio hit in a while. "Likewise, 'Idol' didn't fall apart when Simon left and Jennifer has to get some of the credit for that. But let's also remember the show didn't increase in ratings and that is also thanks to J.Lo."
Jennifer told the BBC: "I loved 'Idol,' but I have a lot of other things happening, and it's going to come down to me making a choice of what I want to do for the next year ... We're not really at the breaking point of 'You have to make a decision right now!'"
Be careful, Jennifer, I'm being told the names Shania Twain and Shakira are already being mentioned in hopes of bringing in viewers!

If it weren't for the Idol gig, JLo would be nowhere. She's a terrible actor, bad singer -- yes, she can dance, but so could Paula Abdul, whose career was nowhere before Idol as well. I won't miss her; she's the worst judge, and YES, Steven Tyler is The Star on the judging panel. JLo, I for one, won't miss you one bit!

I am just glad that Steven is returning for another season. I like JLo but if she doesnt return its no big deal. AI survived without the main man, Simon so it will survive if she leaves. I like Randy and Steven.

Did you ever think to add someone from the public to be a judge? Why always choose a stars and not give a chance to others that could also do a great job. I love them all butI miss Simon!
I would be very interested as I have a strong backround as a singer and love music. Randy was great but I noticed the other two could not wait to show off their costumes and their screaming!

Jennifer Lopez, is beautiful! J-Lo has a nice body but so does Brittany Spears and neither can act or sing. Does Jennifer Lo or Brittany Spears have known powerfuls songs that stand the test of time? For example, Whitney Houston, One Moment in Tiime, I will Always love you(dolly parton), Mariah Carey, Love takes time, Hero, Emotions. Big difference between marketable TALENT and just marketable.

Jennifer Lopez is a pure marketing job. She has NO talent, has nothing intelligent to say and no personality. Her loser husband, Marc Antony, has jumped on the American Idol band wagon too hoping to cash in. Except for Stephen Tyler, I would not be watching American Idol these days. It's an insult to the public to Lopez/Anthony on that show.

JLO was ok....... Too many tears and the "I can't take this" crap. Really think there is better out there to fill the role............ Could care less about her as many many others do also.... Let her go....

Are we really watching Idol because of the judges? Ashamed they get paid so much! I'm watching to see the talent. The judges are secondary to me. They don't make my mind up one way or the other.
Perhaps the talent should be the ones getting paid!

I didn't watch Idol this year cause of JLo's money demands. It certainly did give her career a boost, but the show can do without her, and I think it would be better if it did do without her!!!!!

I think that JLO did a very good job, giving constructive criticism and support. However, if she can do better somewhere else, Good bye and Good Luck. Any one can be replaced.

I would do it for a Fraction of the cost and could be just as good of a judge. Its always about the money right! Maybe I dont have the name recognition that she or Tyler or Randy have but I do have and ear and eye for musical talent. Hey American IDOL hit me up dawg. MiToiTu@yahoo.Myybe they should find the judges the same way they find the Idols. They could even make a new show of it . Just a thought.

Well, Simon left and the show did not fall apart--well, not too much. So, Jennifer will be even less of a loss; and at least Shania can sing.
