It's the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet for Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied's baby son, Aleph. According to an Israeli TV Show, 'Good Evening with Guy Pines' (via HollywoodLife) Portman, who was born in Israel, paid homage to her motherland by naming her son after the letter 'A' in the Hebrew alphabet.Aleph was born in mid-June but the newborn's first-time parents kept his name under wraps until letting it slip on the Israeli talk show. Baby Alef already calls one of the most talented women in Hollywood 'mom' and now he also has to live up to his lofty name -- Alef represents the "oneness of God" and the element of air.

Why do the most beautiful actresses always seem to marry the dorkiest looking guys?

So they will always look good no matter how old they get. Just look at Jenny Lopez and her Mark.
Well, it beats Apple.

What an idiot to burden the kid with a name like that.
Everyone will call him Alex and he'll be upset throughout his childhood.

if we were going for a hebrew name, i would've chosen "Shmeckle"...

The baby is healthy. He can always change his name when he's 18 if he wants. As can Apple, Zuma, Knox... the list goes on

I hope he doesn't try to eat cats.

Mazel tov, the baby should have a Jewish name, given that his mother is Jewish. ייתכן הוא ברכה

She's a poor actress at best, not much to look at second. What she is, is Jewish, as are the movie moguls.........what do we expect ? ? ?

Such a crock...oneness of God...the kid is still illegitimate! She gives a speech at the Oscars about how her parents taught her family values. I guess they missed a step. Get Married already.

i think it is a great name, and since the parents are both very creative people it was to be expected that they would put much thought into selecting a name they love. may the parents and the baby have many blessings.

I asked my Reform Rabbi this question once, is Jewish a religion or a culture? He said, "Its both." Really, that does confuse me a bit, because at the synagogue I attend, they aren't all Rosenberg's and Lowensteen's. There are Thompson's, O'Brien's and Connor's.

Norahalpert,
Natalie Portman did not graduate in the top 3 at MIT with a PhD in physics. Where did you get this misinformation ? And ? What have YOU done with your life that you think it's okay to be so judgmental toward others ?
