Posted Friday 20 November 03:37 PM By: Ashley Iasimone

Melanie FionaOn Thanksgiving, the golden era of Motown will be heard in its hometown of Detroit once again, with newcomers paying tribute to the classics. Artists Melanie Fiona, Hal Linton, Shontelle, Kem, Forever the Sickest Kids and Vita Chambers are set to appear at the 2009 United Way Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show: A Motown 50th Anniversary Tribute.

Performers Melanie Fiona and Hal Linton are no strangers to PopEater, as they've both already paid the New York office a visit earlier this year. When Fiona -- raised on the likes of Sam Cooke -- came by, she talked about her debut album, 'The Bridge.' And when Linton -- the singer behind the single 'She's Dangerous (Bang Bang)' -- came in a couple months later to preview his new album, 'Return From the Future,' he mentioned he'd love to collaborate with Motown legend Stevie Wonder.

Justin Bieber

Who:
Justin Bieber
Album: 'My World'
Video: 'One Less Lonely Girl'
Hails From: Ontario, Canada
For Fans Of: Jesse McCartney, Justin Timberlake

Why He's About to Pop: When Justin Bieber visited PopEater last spring, we already had a feeling that the young singer was on the cusp of hitting it big. Although it was an early promotional appearance, Bieber impressed the staff with his confident attitude and talent, and his back story wasn't too shabby, either. The 15-year-old musician made a name for himself with homemade videos on YouTube, sparked a bidding war between Justin Timberlake and Usher -- who then landed him a record deal -- and built a growing fanbase via the Internet.

It's safe to say Bieber has since created an even greater buzz with a handful of catchy hit singles, including 'One Time,' 'One Less Lonely Girl,' 'Love Me' and 'Favorite Girl.' The singer has already presented at the VMAs, scheduled tour dates with Taylor Swift and made several TV appearances. Most recently, Bieber tells PopEater that he penned a song that he wants Diddy to record -- the two even hung out together, so that he could play it for him.

With things falling into place so quickly, Bieber has become quite the teen idol. But he seems poised to take it all in like a pro. The singer's debut album, 'My World,' is set to be released on Nov. 17, and he credits his success to his eager supporters, whom he says have made his dreams come true. "It seems like every day there is something new and exciting happening. I can't even begin to number them," Bieber tells PopEater. "Just to be able to make music and share it with the fans is pretty exciting."

Elliott Yamin Admits He Was a 'Total Loser' Before 'Idol'

Elliott YaminHave you ever wondered what your favorite 'American Idol' stars were like, before their days of reality TV fame? In a recent interview, Season 5's Elliott Yamin was happy to reveal some details about his pre-'Idol' life.

"You really want to know? He was a total loser," Yamin told OurStage. "I didn't have a whole lot of ambition. I wasn't really working toward any goals. I definitely wasn't pursuing a career in music."

"It took some heavy persuading from my friends and family to really conjure up the courage to actually do something like that," Yamin, who took third place in his 'Idol' competition, added. "The only real experience I had performing was once-in-a-blue-moon karaoke, you know."

About to Pop: Serabee

Who:
Serabee
Album: 'Serabee' EP
Video: 'Driving Me Stupid'
Hails From: Kiln, Miss.
For Fans Of: Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood

Why She's About to Pop: Hailing from the South, Serabee brings a soulful edge to pop music. The singer has been performing since the age of five, when she joined her father's touring band. Her father, a preacher, traveled with Serabee and the rest of the family around the country to play for church crowds. Serabee soon discovered the music of Aretha Franklin, Prince, Ray Charles and Steve Winwood, and they all influenced her own vocal style and attitude. In time, the singer developed her songwriting skills, and eventually penned Charlotte Church's 'Crazy Chick,' which became a big hit in the UK. Now, Serabee has recorded her own EP, filmed her first music video and is ready to introduce the world to her sound.

"I can't wait to get on the road," Serabee tells PopEater. "Playing music is my favorite thing, and it is so exciting to think about sharing mine with everyone." Check out Serabee's single, 'Driving Me Stupid,' and the rest of her debut EP, available on Nov. 10.

About to Pop: Jaicko

Posted Monday 02 November 05:45 PM By: Ashley Iasimone

Who: Jaicko
Album: 'Can I'
Video: 'Oh Yeah'
Hails From: Barbados
For Fans Of: The Dream, Chris Brown

Why He's About to Pop:
Jaicko's Caribbean-infused pop tunes are just hitting US radio this year, but he's been building his fanbase for years. "
I released a number of songs in Barbados," Jaicko told PopEater. "We have two Top 40 radio stations, and I used to get plugged in between Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z."

The singer, who recently visited PopEater to preview some catchy tunes from his debut album, 'Can I,' might not be asked for as many autographs here in New York just yet, but that's bound to change. Jaicko's first single, 'Oh Yeah,' has already been remixed by Snoop, and for the album tracks that he didn't self-produce, a notable team of producers -- Stargate (Ne-Yo, Beyonce), Rob Allen (Chris Brown, Rihanna) and Jim Jonson (Lil Wayne) -- lent a hand.

"The reason why I decided to name the album 'Can I' was because I was doing music from nine years old. I'm 18 now," Jaicko said. "From then 'til now, I went through a lot of struggles both personally and being in the music industry. That kind of motivated me to write the track. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to it ... I think the world needs a real track like that, coming from someone young." Check out an exclusive interview with Jaicko after the jump, and keep an eye out for his album, which is set to be released this winter.

About to Pop: Hot Chelle Rae

Posted Monday 26 October 01:30 PM By: Ashley Iasimone

Who: Hot Chelle Rae
Album: 'Lovesick Electric'
Song: 'I Like to Dance'
Hails From: Nashville, Tenn.
For Fans Of: Metro Station, The Cab

Why They're About to Pop: Although you might not know Hot Chelle Rae's catchy dance-rock tunes yet, chances are you will soon -- and you're likely more familiar with their work than you'd think. The Nashville-based band lent a hand to superstars Taylor Swift and T-Pain to co-write 'Thug Story,' the parody based off of Swift's hit, 'Love Story.' "
Working with T-Pain and Taylor Swift was kind of a dream come true," guitarist Nash Overstreet tells PopEater. "We got a call one night, asking for a hip-hop song that they could perform together for the CMT Awards. I believe they were both on tour at the time, and didn't have the time to get it started. We began 'Thug Story,' and then Taylor and T-Pain met us in Nashville to finish the track."

Hot Chelle Rae -- Overstreet, lead singer Ryan Keith Follese, bassist Ian Keaggy and drummer Jamie Follese -- are now busy readying the release of their own debut album, 'Lovesick Electric.' The first single, 'I Like to Dance,' has already been featured on 'So You Think You Can Dance,' and the band recently filmed a video for it, featuring 'The Hills' star Stephanie Pratt. Catch Hot Chelle Rae live as they wrap up a tour with Third Eye Blind, and pick up a copy of 'Lovesick Electric,' out on Oct. 27.
