Donny Osmond was declared the new champion of 'Dancing With The Stars' on Tuesday night, taking home the show's mirror ball trophy in the season finale of the ABC contest reality program. Osmond, the former teen pop star of the singing Osmond family, said the show has been a highlight in a career of ups and downs. "I did it!" Osmond exclaimed. He promptly rushed to the audience and plucked out his wife, Debbie, whom he carried across the stage. Helping push Osmond over the top was his performance Tuesday: an Argentine tango, performed with his professional dancing partner, Kym Johnson. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba hailed it as "artistry in motion." It earned the top score of the final performances Tuesday.


Police Chief Convicted in Sarah Jessica Parker Surrogate Theft
An eastern Ohio police chief was convicted of three felonies Monday but was acquitted of burglary charges in an alleged break-in at the home of a woman who carried twin girls for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. A jury found suspended Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence. He was acquitted on charges of burglary and unauthorized used of property or services. Carpenter put his head in his hands after the verdict was read in Belmont County court. "The bottom line is that there is a victim in this case whose privacy was so gravely intruded upon," Ohio Assistant Attorney General Emily Laube said. "If you can't trust the police, who can you trust?"


Bulls Escape on Set of Cruise, Diaz Film
Seven bulls being used on the set of a film starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz have broken free in Spain and injured two people. Two unidentified women were slightly injured by the bulls as they broke free from the downtown location and ran through streets to a nearby beach. Tween Girls Go Wild at Justin Bieber Mall Event; 5 Injured, 1 Arrest
New York police shut down a mall appearance by teen pop singer Justin Bieber after thousands of young girls showed up and got a little too wild. Nassau County police say girls and adults in the crowd of nearly 3,000 started pushing and shoving as they waited for the 15-year-old sensation to arrive Friday at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City.But Bieber never made it into the building. He told WBLI radio that police turned him away and even "threatened to arrest my mom and I."
Lawyer: Roman Polanski's Family 'Very Upset Psychologically'
The wife and two children of Roman Polanski are bearing the brunt of the director's imprisonment in Switzerland as he awaits a decision on his extradition, his lawyer said in an interview to be published Friday.Polanski has proposed "very significant" bail money, house arrest and other assurances to find freedom, Herve Temime told the daily Le Figaro. His 76-year-old client "will not accept extradition to the United States," he said.
U.S. authorities want Polanski to face justice in Los Angeles for having sex with a 13-year-old 32 years ago. A Swiss court official said this week that a bail decision was expected in 2 to 3 weeks.
