Colbie Caillat has a new friend and new fan in
Taylor Swift. The two have written and recorded a song together for Swift's upcoming sophomore album.
"Colbie Caillat is No. 1 on my 'Cool People List,'" Swift tells Dial-Global. "She's got this amazing album that I've fallen in love with, and I got the great opportunity to write a song with her. I've got this awesome tape of us both singing it, and I'm playing guitar and she starts singing these backup vocals and I'm like, 'Oh my God, she's got the best voice ever.' And so that's a really cool thing that I'm very excited about on this album."
Swift has also written a song with her good friend
Kellie Pickler that will appear on Pickler's sophomore album. Swift's new album is due in late '08.

Every year around Grammy time, one of the hottest parties in L.A. is the
Black Eyed Peas' Peapod, a benefit for the group's Peapod Foundation. Past performers include the likes of James Brown, Justin Timberlake and many others. This year wasn't short on talent, with
Ne-Yo,
Common,
John Legend,
Lil Jon,
Natasha Bedingfield,
Slash, and
Snoop Dogg all making appearances.
"When you get a bunch of creative people in one room nothing could happen but magic," Ne-Yo told AOL Music.
Sure enough, one of last night's biggest pops came for an unannounced surprise appearance by
Boyz II Men, who enjoyed love for 'Motownphilly' and the smash ballad 'End of the Road.' Even they seemed surprised by the response, commenting, "It's an honor to get this kind of love."

It seems that
Nick Lachey has traded in his all but non-existent singing career for a go at the ever-fickle restaurant industry. But fear not, the former boy band hunk isn't going it alone. Celebutante Nicky Hilton and
'That '70s Show' actor Wilmer Valderrama will also own a share of the Las Vegas establishment, which is to be named 'The Company.'
"[It's] in the Luxor hotel." Valderrama told PEOPLE last week. "It's a steakhouse [with] a different flavor ... the architecture, the chef, the vibe of the restaurant ... kind of next generation type things."
'The Company' is set to open in the next few weeks. We hope it's as successful as Valderrama's Los Angeles eatery,
'Dolce,' of which he and his ''70s' co-stars
Ashton Kutcher and
Danny Masterson share partial ownership.

Panic! At the Disco guitarist Ryan Ross spent his 21st birthday in New York City last week ,and it is a locale the Las Vegas native plans to return to very soon for a special occasion. Ross is hoping to join Adam Duritz in song, at an event the
Counting Crows man is putting together. So how did the two even hook up? Panic's penchant for cover versions -- a past favorite being the Crows' 'Round Here,' led to a rock musos bonding session.
"I have talked to Adam Duritz a few times and he's a really cool guy and he's a fan of us. That was great," Ross recounted to Popeater. "He was just kind of surprised that we covered it in the first place and that we did a good job."
As for the special event, Ross said the details were still in the works. "He has something maybe going on in New York [this] month, which I'm going to try and be part of," he noted.

Paris Bennett was told that she was an "old soul" many times during her run on 'American Idol,' but we doubt the 18-year-old diva ever expected to be singing with one of the greatest voices of the Rat Pack era -- especially one that has been dead for 12 years. But that's exactly what she, along with Joss Stone, Robbie Williams, and seven other living, breathing musicians, gets to do on 'Forever Cool,' a new album of
Dean Martin duets.
With the help of some hi-tech studio wizardry, Paris is able to trade vocals, as well as a few laughs, with Dino on
'Baby-O,' a swingin' jazz tune that was originally recorded 24 years before she was born. We think she more than holds her own with the king of cool, though we're still waiting to hear Simon Cowell's critique.

Lil Jon is forming his own dream-team for a new hip-hop/rock hybrid album that he's calling "crunk rock." From rockers
P.O.D. and
Kid Rock to hip-hop heavyweights
Ice Cube and
Three 6 Mafia to R&B greats like
R. Kelly and
Ciara, Lil Jon's packin' some serious musical heat this time.
"It's real rock guitars with my beats, not keyboard guitars with ghetto beats, he told Billboard. "It's gonna be a little different from what you hear right now, but I think everyone will love it." He hopes that the project will open some minds to new music fusions "cause [we] tend to be closed-minded to sh-- we don't know about. It might make a motherf---er that don't listen to rock go listen to some
Guns N' Roses." The record is slated to be released before the end of the year.

Anyone who's ever made a mixtape knows that it's one of the best ways to show someone that you really care. Amnesty International took the concept one step further, creating an online "mixtape" to spread the word about the plight of Darfur. Socially minded music fans can grab their own player, filled with tracks from the 'Instant Karma' benefit double CD, and show they care about saving Darfur, too.
Artists including
Christina Aguilera,
Green Day,
Black Eyed Peas,
Avril Lavigne,
U2 and many more all contributed covers of
John Lennon songs for the project.
After the jump, snag your own 'Instant Karma' player, and listen to four songs from the CD.
