Fall Out Boy Documentary in the Works

Legendary documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles is working on a film about Fall Out Boy. Maysles' credits include the Rolling Stones' tour doc 'Gimme Shelter' and 'Grey Gardens.'

"Albert came along and was like, 'I'm really interested in doing something with your band,' and we did the thing like when you're in high school and the hot girl talks to you, and you sort of look behind you and go, 'Who, us?' " bassist Pete Wentz told MTV. "This guy could document pretty much anything, and he wanted to do something with us. That's what blew our minds more than anything."

Maysles filmed five dates of FOB's Young Wild Things tour and plans on documenting the next year of the band's career, including the recording process of their fourth full-length album. Wentz is unsure of the film's outcome, but is enthused about the process.

"I'm really excited about it, whatever happens, because I think most bands just film a bunch of crap for 'the official DVD,' and those are always kind of cheesy," Wentz laughed. "We'd like to have it submitted to some festivals, maybe release it as a proper, real DVD in the fall," he said. "All I know is, I can look forward to having Albert and his crew sleeping on my couch."

Prescription Drugs Caused Casey Calvert's Death

Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert died from the "acute combined effects of opiate, citalopram and clonazepam intoxication," according to the autopsy report released by the chief medical examiner in Washington, D.C. Although the language in the report said the death was brought on by "substance abuse," Calvert's passing was ruled accidental.

Citalopram (brand name Celexa) is used to treat depression, and clonazepam (brand names Klonopin and Rivotril) is used to treat seizure disorders and panic attacks. They are both prescription drugs.

On November 24, Calvert, 26, was found dead on the Hawthorne Heights' tour bus in Washington, D.C.

Fall Out Boy Rock for Grammys, Despite Awkwardness

The Grammys might be two months away, but the parties are already in full swing. To celebrate the announcement of the nominations, the Grammys and PEOPLE Magazine threw a kick-off party in L.A. Thursday night, hosted by Fergie and featuring performances by Fall Out Boy, Ne-Yo and Natasha Bedingfield.

Fergie -- who was posing for pictures out in the invite-only crowd, which included actress/singer Emmy Rossum, members of Hinder and the Pussycat Dolls, and Tyrese Gibson -- told PopEater she enjoyed her hosting duties. "I love it," she said. "I don't have to perform."

Things, however, were not quite as comfortable for Fall Out Boy.

Following Bedingfield and a four-song set by Ne-Yo, FOB took the stage with a lot of energy. Turns out, they were playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. "I'd like to thank the Academy," Wentz, whose band wasn't nominated, started to say. "Nevermind. This is awkward. I woke up at 5:30 this morning to see who was nominated and ended up breaking my foot on my computer."

We assume Wentz was kidding about the injury, given how agile he was on stage. The awkwart bit, however ....

Pete Wentz Says He Wishes He Was Gay

Pete Wentz has long played with the rules of gender. The Fall Out Boy bassist is the certified poster boy for guyliner, wears women's jeans and often makes out with his male bandmates on stage. While such acts prompt confusion around Wentz's sexual orientation -- despite having a longtime girlfriend, Ashlee Simpson -- he says it's all nothing more than an attempt to confront homophobia.

"I would never come out and say I'm gay, because I'm not gay," Wentz told NPR's 'All Things Considered.' "There's part of me that kind of wishes I was gay, and I think that comes from anybody constantly wishing they were in the minority and constantly wants to be fighting everybody off."

Wentz cites gender-bending rockers like David Bowie and Marilyn Manson as inspiration for his own playful ways. "My whole point is I think there's something in art where you should be making people feel uncomfortable," he said.

Hawthorne Heights Guitarist Dies at Age 26

Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert was pronounced dead on Saturday, just outside of Washington, DC's 9:30 Club. The cause of death is currently unknown. He was 26.

Police arrived on the scene around 2:30pm, when Calvert was found unconscious in his tour bus. In a statement on Hawthorne Heights' website, the band said Calvert "passed away in his sleep," but police are awaiting the results of the autopsy. The Ohio-based group kicked off their Wintour 2007 run just one day prior.

"Today is probably the worst day ever," began the band's announcement. "It's with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We've spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible. At this time we're not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don't contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don't want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know."

Simple Plan Returns With First Single in Three Years

It's been three years since we've heard from Candian pop-punkers Simple Plan. Well, wait no more. On October 29 at 6PM ET, the multi-platinum band will premiere their new single, 'When I'm Gone,' with a live video and webchat on their official website. Simple Plan will also be taking fan questions and revealing details about their as-yet-untitled album, which is slated for release on January 29.

"[On Monday], we will finally have a new song to play to all of our fans," drummer Chuck Comeau tells PopEater. "Honestly, I still can't believe it's been three years since our last record came out. What a crazy journey it's been for us. After two years of touring all over the world, we started writing songs for our third album. We thought we would be done in 3-4 months but we were dead wrong. It took us 14 months instead."

"The writing process and recording took us to San Diego, L.A., Miami, Stockholm, Montreal and New York City," Comeau continued. "Honestly, we did nothing else than focus on songwriting for more than a year. We worked harder than we ever did before and came up with what we feel is the best music we ever made."

Now, after two years of touring and writing, the Midwestern quintet is ready to release their third, most mature effort to date with a little production help from Ric Ocasek, Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger and Girls Against Boys' Eli Janney.

Fall Out Boy Go 'Wild' on Upcoming Tour

While Fall Out Boy were nominated for multiple Moonmen at the VMAs, lead singer Patrick Stump's mind was on other things. "I'm actually way more excited about the performance tonight then I am about anything else," he told Popeater. "I don't even know what we're up for. I'm just looking forward to playing."

The boys, who hosted a suite that featured performances from Cobra Starship, Rihanna and Panic! At the Disco, among others, are all about performing these days. They head out on the 'Young Wild Things' tour this fall with VMA Best New Artist winners Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T's and Cute is What We Aim For.

Bassist Pete Wentz tells Popeater that fans can expect a different vibe on this tour. "It's gonna be a little bit more intimate than our last tour," Wentz says. "We're gonna do an ambient stage show so there's going to be more depth and air to it than the last tour, which was like, 'Fire, fire, fire.'"
