Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake were as much celebrity royalty as the rest of the tabloid soap opera dukes and duchesses, and it all began at an unlikely time – the 2003 Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards. After the award show in April that year, it didn’t take long for Diaz to take the bait and join Timberlake on the road for his tour with Christina Aguilera.
 
People immediately thought Diaz was too old for Timberlake with her being nine years older, but the couple shrugged it off. “It’s not like this is the first time in the history of human relationships that people were drawn to one another because of who they are, not what age they are,” Diaz told W in 2004.
 
Even in the beginning, their relationship was an uphill battle with the paparazzi, for example in 2004 when Timberlake filed a libel lawsuit against a UK newspaper making allegations Timberlake had cheated with model Lucy Clarkson.
 
Rumors swirled that that Timberlake was going to marry Diaz, but she went on Ellen DeGeneres in 2006, and hacked them down saying she’s not into marriage. “I’m a commitment-phobe,” she said on the show. “Don’t want to do it.”
 
It was never a smooth relationship, at least in the media’s eye, as rumors heard they were fighting, and once caught them in a fight, which resulted in them assaulting a paparazzi cameraman.
 
When people thought at first they were an odd couple, it didn’t end entirely different, and they parted ways peacefully in early 2007. “We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another,” Timberlake and Diaz said in a press statement.
