PARIS (Oct. 13) - Hospital officials say 37-year-old French actor Guillaume Depardieu has died from complications linked to a sudden case of pneumonia.

Deaths in Hollywood

Frank Mundus, Sept. 10: The shark hunter spent decades hunting the deadliest creatures of the sea. He served as an inspiration for Captain Quint in Peter Benchley's novel 'Jaws,' a character which was brought to life on the big screen with Robert Shaw. Mundus suffered a fatal heart attack at 82.

    James Marshall, Corbis

Anita Page, Sept. 6: Her intoxicating presence in 1920s Hollywood helped smoothen the transition from silent movies to talkies. Page, seen in her youth and again in 2003, starred in the "Our Dancing Daughters" trilogy with Joan Crawford and also shared the screen Lon Chaney and Buster Keaton. She was 98.

Don LaFontaine, Sept. 1: In a world where hundreds of movie trailers are produced every year, the one voice likely heard on dozens of them belonged to the legendary LaFontaine. He died following complications resulting from a collapsed lung at age 68.

Fred Crane, Aug. 21: Armed with that deep Southern accent, Crane scored the bit part of a lifetime in 'Gone With the Wind' as Stuart Tarleton, seated to the right of Vivien Leigh, delivering the opening line of the 1939 classic. Crane, who was the last living male actor to have been featured in the film, died at age 90.

Julius Carry III, Aug. 19: Despite a busy career over 25 years, Carry is best known for his intentionally campy role as Sho'nuff in the cult classic 'The Last Dragon.' Serving both as an answer and as a moniker, Sho'nuff was the Shogun of Harlem in the urban kung fu parody. He died at 56.

Evelyn Keyes, July 4: She played Scarlett O'Hara's little sister in 'Gone With the Wind' and was married to entertainment legends Artie Shaw, King Vidor and John Huston. Keyes succumbed to uterine cancer at her home in Montecito, Calif. She was 91.

Cyd Charisse, June 17: The actress-dancer who had iconic roles in 'Singin' in the Rain' and 'The Band Wagon' died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 86.

Stan Winston, June 15: Winston's pioneering special effects work on 'Jurassic Park,' the 'Terminator' films and 'Aliens' wowed audiences around the world. He lost his seven-year battle with multiple myeloma at age 62.

Bob Anderson, June 6: The son of movie makers, who got his start in Shirley Temple's 'Young People' before landing his best known role as a young George Bailey in 'It's A Wonderful Life,' died of cancer at his home in Palm Springs.

Mel Ferrer, June 2: Ferrer, who was once married to Audrey Hepburn, wore many hats, including actor, director and producer. He died at his home in Santa Barbara, surrounded by family, at the age of 90.

The son of French movie star Gerard Depardieu had been hospitalized since Sunday night, said officials at the Raymond-Poincare de Garches hospital in the western suburbs of Paris.
Guillaume Depardieu won the prize in 1996 as the most promising young actor at the Cesar awards -- France's equivalent of the Academy Awards -- for his role in the film "Les Apprentis" (The Apprentices).
He starred with his father in a 1991 film, but they had a public falling-out in 2003. Guillaume Depardieu had his right leg amputated in 2003 to end years of pain from a bacterial infection following a motorcycle accident in 1996.

My husband was also 37 when he died 6 yrs from a mild case of pneumonia. The pneumonia cleared up, but the medication is what destroyed his life. People, don't always assume someone has AIDS when they die fo pneumonia. Thank you.

OxXxO : you are an idiot. Diabetes and autoimmune disease, for example, or neglecting symptoms, or a particular viral strian strain of pneumonia can all be contributing factors in mortality. Have some respect.

oh and for Ranman7269, no healthcare program, government or private insurance, in short no amount of access to docters is going to stop people from getting sick. universal coverage would help people be able to seek out and afford healthcare, but it doesnt mean people will stop getting sick or stop dying, just hopefully less people will die from not seeking healthcare or being able to afford insurance. As for the horrible comments by some, and I stress SOME, of my fellow americans, well some people in this country are just a biut spoiled by free speach. Just because you are free to say whatever is on your mind doesnt always mean that you should, and you certainly shouldnt comment on something without thinking first. The right to free speach doesnt mean that you have to be cruel, vindictive or otherwise an ass.

Whewther or not he was gay or had HIV/AIDS is not rellevent, in that the answer to both of these questions does not make the unexpected death of a 37 year old any less tragic. And for the record, there are many reasons other than HIV/AIDS that a persons immune system can be compromised. Simply having a different infection while getting pneumonia or any other second infection is enough to do it. Also, I am gay and do not have HIV/AIDS, I personally know 3 people who do, ONE of which is gay, One of which got it from his girlfriend, and ONE of which got it from sharing a needle with an infected person, so as you can see being gay has nothing to do with having HIV/AIDS anymore than being straight, being a man, being a certain age or being a certain race does.

If you read closely, it says he battled another infection for almost 7 years before amputating his leg. It sounds like his body had a tough time with infections and healing to begin with, and perhaps this is why he passed so quickly. Whether it was from AIDS or not is irrelevant, and nobody else's business.

People here getting upset at the suggestion that he had AIDS need to realize that pneumonia is the most common complication of the AIDS virus and often listed as the "cause of death" for public announcements. It was my first thought too when I read he'd died of pneumonia. Normally healthy people don't die from pneumonia unless they are very young or very old. The only usual reason a person dies from pneumonia is if their immune system is somehow compromised, either through something like chemotherapy or some other illness, most commonly AIDS. I don't think anyone is slandering him for wondering this out loud. It may or may not be true, but its a legitimate connection to make. In any event though, I'm very sad for his father who will now have to reconcile their fight all by himself. Somehow being right or wrong no longer matters once someone dies. That's a very sad situation to have on top of losing a child.

Boy, does he look like his dad ! It's very sad that he did not reconcile with his father before his untimely death. This should be a lesson to the rest of us. Forgive, if you can, because tomorrow may be too late.

Why do all these Osama supporters think a dead mans blog is the right place to voice their political views? Have you no decency?! my heart goes out to the family of this young man. God bless them. And may everyone who views this and is estranged from their family...please, tell your loved ones how you feel. To love someone doesn't mean you agree with their ways or views. It just means you love them. Life doesn't go on forever.
