(Oct. 9) - DirecTV's ads can be pretty creative. The company takes a scene from a well known movie, reshoots it with the same actors but different lines to promote their product.
But, EW's PopWatch thinks the latest commercial has gone too far. The new TV spot uses the scene from 'Poltergeist' when Heather O'Rourke ominously says 'They're here.'
Only this time, Craig T. Nelson explains isn't ghosts, but the lack of DirecTV.
However, the advertisement may be in poor taste since O'Rourke died tragically in 1988.

No rule, certainly not a rule of decorum is hard and true for all cases. This isn't a law or a civil rights case. This commercial is in bad taste. She was child when she died and did not have any say in the use of her image. It is not the same thing as watching an actor who has died in adulthood. And yes, circumstances can matter. WE decide what is in bad taste by subtle measures. So yeah, DIrectv stepped in it with this ad. Capitalizing on the image of a dead child is distasteful. Sorry.

Don't we see things all the time with dead actors and actesses? There a Macy's comercial out that shows clips of movies and I am preety sure some of those actors are deceased. It's just entertainment.

If you remember her mom sued the doctor for "loss of income" when the poor kid died so I am not surprised at all that she's trying to make a buck off her memory. The mother only saw her as a meal ticket.

MTCLAIRS- I don't know who you lived down the street from, but it wasn't this girl. She died of a bowel obstruction. I thought it was a complication of giardia, but I could be wrong. Just know she was not shot. The girl who played the older sister in Poltergeist was shot and killed by her boyfriend, are you thinking of her?

MTCLAIRS 07:26 PMOct 11 2008 well for all of you to young to remember--we lived 2 blocks away from her-- her own father and mother were in a bitter custody-- he shot her ( the little girl )and then killed himself --my husband was a fireman at the time and we were neighbors !! she was not sick , she was a tomboy loved to play outside. yes we were shocked to see her again but if the mom approved this we must see it in her way--we always felt bad and sad for her-mtclairs@aol.com ************************************************************************ ***********I usually never comment on these things, but you are seriously disturbed. Heather died in the childrens hospital of san diego , ca. Heather and my older brother became very good friends there as children (he had severe asthma). She died of something like a bowl obstruction. Your sick and twisted, and you are disrespecting her memory.

MTCLAIRS - you must be thinking of someone else. She died during surgery for septic shock. Look it up online. Here is the official memorial website: http://heatherorourke.net/site/
