HONOLULU (AP) - The legendary shark fisherman who may have inspired the Captain Quint character in the movie "Jaws," has died.
His wife says Frank Mundus died last Wednesday in Honolulu after a heart attack. He was 82.

Mundus, Shark Hunter

Quint Shows His Scars

Mundus forged his reputation as a fearless fisherman with decades of daring catches. In 1964 he used a harpoon to snag a 4,500 pound great white. He proclaimed on his Web site that catch later influenced Peter Benchley, who wrote "Jaws."
Mundus went on to call "Jaws" the "funniest and the stupidest" movie he'd ever seen.
Benchley maintained his Captain Quint was a composite character.
Mundus once spoke to Esquire Magazine about his shark battles, saying he felt good when he won but at the same time felt sorry for the shark. His wife says he was a big promoter of shark conservation.

That guy was a freakin badass, If he didn't kill em the chinese would. I just ate Sword fish lastweek, having Sea Bass tommorrow, and have some fresh Marlin for another day. Wish I caught them myself but my buddies dad caught and shipped it :). in forty years the Sea will be a baron place so catch and kill while you can. I think all who talk down on this guy should be fed to the sharks ! Stick to your tofu , maybe you'll be spared.

This guy probably killed or had a hand in killing over 1000 sharks...and he's a conservationist??? What a joke. He's nothing more than Mr.Macho showing off the big bad sharks he's killed.
