this woman is kinda creepy, she's isolated, but a player with clooney and the other big boys. I had a cancer scare last year, and had a stereotactic biopsy, it was a nightmare, they hit an artery and turned my left side purple, thankjfully, no cancer, my mother died a slow painful death with cancer. If this is a ploy to get some media for an upcoming project, that is disgraceful. What took her 12 years to talk about it. . .??????? I'm glad she was cancer free but she is an odd duck, hairstyles, makeup, lifestyle.

I meant to post this under my other screen name MarciaDH (as I posted my earlier comments) to show that I had reconsidered my position on Renee's motives after learning more about the matter. Although I still believe someone whose actually lived the experience has a stronger message and impact, I think that anyone getting the word out is doing a great service. What upset me yesterday was the comment about the biopsy as stabbing around for the crunch little bit. The trauma of breast cancer treatment makes one very sensitive.

I just learned that Renee is the executive producer on a Lifetime story called "Living Proof" about the creation of the breast cancer treatment drug Herceptin. It is due to premiere on 10/18/08 as part of Lifetime's "Stop Breast Cancer for Life" program. That explains the timing of her announcement after all these years. Based on this, I am sincerely sorry that I thought she was doing this for publicity. It now makes sense why she would make this announcement after all these years.

She's always come a cross a bit pragmatic about things. But I think the point is she found the lumps, didn't panic, didn't wait, just did what needed to be done. If more women took this stance, less would die of this particular type of cancer.

Can't believe that this is being treated like news. Did this "scare" that took place twelve (12) years ago lead Ms. Zellweger to do anything to support breast cancer research, testing programs, donate time to fundraising, etc.? Or did she do what thousands (millions) of us do every day -- stay vigilant, get checked and have a mammogram. Sorry. This isn't news.

Yes, I personally do think that the celebrities who have actually had breast cancer have a stronger message, just like I now have a stronger message as a stage 2 breast cancer patient than I did in previous years when I was a woman with a family history and scares. Any attention to breast cancer is good though, so I hope I'm wrong that this was for publicity. It just felt that way to me, but I am overly sensitive to anything breast cancer related. I hope the "shame on you" wasn't directed at me because until you've spent a year in my shoes you can't imagine how a cancer survivor/patient feels and you have no right to judge.

Glad she did not turn out to have cancer. That is really scary. I had threebiopsies done, one at age 30 and one at age 33, and one just two years ago. It was even more scary because my Mom had already died of breast cancer when I was only 8 years old. I make sure I get a mammogram every year since the age of 30. My sister develped breast cancer 5 years ago but thankfully has been cancer free since then. My aunt also died of it when she was in her 50s. It is rampant in our family. Sending good thoughts for anyone that has had a scare and special thoughts go out to the ones that have to fight this horrible disiease.

OK, let me see if I understand correctly. Christina Applegate, Sheryl Crow, and Mellissa Etheridge who really did have cancer have a valuable message but "only" a scare is just publicity seeking and has no value?!? Some of the bloggers here have a disease much more harmful than cancer. Shame on you.

So, in other words, she never had cancer. Millions of us have gone through the same "scare." It doesn't begin to compare with those who fight the REAL fight against cancer. This article wasn't news-worthy and is a slap in the face to women who are fighting cancer and fighting for their lives. I had two benign breast lumps removed. I thanked God that I had a free pass ( for now, anyway ) and could move on ... and I pray for those who are not so lucky.
