Former child star Tatum O'Neal had a humiliating run-in with the NYPD earlier this year when she was arrested after allegedly buying cocaine from a dealer near her home. In her first interview since her arrest in June, O'Neal told Oprah Winfrey that intervention by police actually saved her from relapsing. "I was almost at my year [of sobriety], and I chose not to start over," she said.
PEOPLE reports that O'Neal, who has struggled for years with addiction to heroin and cocaine, was ordered to pay a $95 fine and attend two half-days in a drug rehab program. She insists that her arrest prevented her from using the drugs that she'd purchased, and thanks to the police, she's still clean and sober. "I got close to relapsing," O'Neal told Oprah. "It was close enough. Too close for comfort." Read Full Story
