Tom Cruise Addresses Scientology's Role in Jett Travolta's Death

(Jan. 8) - A somber Tom Cruise opened up about Jett Travolta's Death during Thursday's taping of 'The View.' In the segment, which will air on Friday, Cruise struggles to find the right words before explaining that the "horrific" tragedy had little to do with Scientology's practices. "It's not true. It's actually the opposite. They say, 'Get your medication. Get your physical illnesses handled,'" Cruise explains.

Travolta Family Tragedy

    Jett Travolta, son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, died suddenly on Friday after falling the bathroom and hitting his head. An autopsy concluded that Jett died of a seizure.

    The 16-year-old's death has affected many. Speaking of Travolta's relationship with his son, Bahamian parliament member Obie Wilchcombe told Larry King, "He always brought him along. There was a close affectionate relationship and lots of love. People in the old Bahama community today are in shock."

    Travolta and Preston had revealed that their son became sick when he was 2, and was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, an illness that leads to inflammation of the blood vessels in young children.

    Both parents blamed his diagnosis on household cleaners, and used Scientology's detoxification program to improve their son's health. "I was obsessive about his space being cleaned. We constantly had the carpets cleaned," Travolta said in a 2001 interview.

After Jett's death, many began to speculate that the Church of Scientology had refused to let the 16 year old take any medications to keep him from having seizures. But many people have spoken out, defending the religion.
His mom, Kelly Preston, 46, have said that Jett became very sick when he was 2 years old and was diagnosed with Kawasaki Syndrome, an illness that leads to inflamed blood vessels in young children. Preston said that a detoxification program based on teachings from the Church of Scientology helped improve his health.

seizure medication does work for many many people who have seizures. sometimes people need to take a combination of two medications, especially if the seizures are severe. jett had a severe seizure disorder, described as "debiliating" by travoltas attorney. the poor kid had been suffering at least one seizure a week and he died of a grand mal seizure UNMEDICATED. He was not on seizure medication at the time of his death, per every news article i have read. WHY in the name of sanity would they not put him on seizure medicaitons: was it scientology or was it neglect and denial??? either way, this kid did NOT need to die. if one medication doesn't work, there are so many options for others or combinations of medications to control seizures. no one as sick as jett was should be without medication for seizures.
