David Cook isn't lacking for inspiration these days. But while his skyrocketing career is certainly fairy tale fodder, Cook needs to look no further than his own backyard. To that end, the 'American Idol' winner wrote a song called 'Permanent' -- the "poignantly personal" second-to-last track on Cook's forthcoming debut solo record -- for his brother, Adam, who is currently fighting cancer.

"I want this to be a piano lullaby to my older brother, who's been battling a brain tumor for a long time," Cook tells PopEater. "I knew that the record was lacking this kind of bare, honest, naked song. I didn't allow myself to be metaphorical or anything other than, 'This is the exact thought that I'm thinking, and I'm going to put it on paper and leave it alone.'"
While recording the song, which features a 15-piece string orchestra, Cook found himself in emotional throes. "I was crying, of course, because I do that all the time," he laughs.
As for his brother, Cook says he's doing well and it's fingers crossed for the future. "We've been very fortunate as a family to get quite a bit of good news pertaining to his illness while I was on tour," Cook says. "Hopefully it's all good news ahead."

I love David Cook's ability to put real emotion and real heart into everything he does. Any man who is secure enough in his masculinity to allow himself to be sensitve and caring about the people in his life is okay by me. He looks amazing, he has an amazing voice, and more than anything else he is just an amazing person.

AOL has no tact at all. Following up a story about David Cook and his brother that has cancer with a picture of him and others titled 'Rockers in Eyeliner' is just about as sensitive as running a story about Jane Fonda on Veteran's Day! Way to go AOL!!

David Cook's brother should be an inspiration for his music, as it's the compassion of the soul that brings on the raw, honest and heartfelt emotions through music. Music is also a great tool for venting feelings, whether, hurt, fear, being battered, or facing burdens that you're not capable to express your feelings with others. Music is the root of the soul and inspiration for life...May God Bless Adam Cook with a speed y recovery and for all the Cook family to have a comfort in healing. May David continue to write and create his great songs, and succeed in the record industry, through good times and in bad, may he find the strength and courage to carry on and never quit...His brother is a fighter, and so should he fight for his future to be successful.

KUDOS to you Yankfan1069! I admire you for sticking with your wife. She would never be able to cope without knowing she has a loving family that is with her thru her ups and downs. I have a daughter that has the same illness. She reconizes the personality differences and we have gotten to the point where we can actually bring it to her attention when she is having her "down" moment. We actually call her by a different name. She now laughs and says she's sorry, that she didn't realize that she was being the way she was. I am going to suggest to her to keep a journal about her feelings. She is expecting so she can't take the proper medication, and WOW! There are some days we have to just walk away, which is very hard to do. I admire you and I hope she realizes what a wonderful husband she has.
