(Oct. 8) - The Foo Fighters have joined a growing list of artists that are less-than-tickled with Sen. John McCain's taste in campaign music.
In a statement issued early Wednesday, the alt-rock band says they believe the McCain campaign displayed a lack of respect by using "My Hero" at rallies without first getting permission.
"It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property," the statement read.

The band added: "The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song. We hope that the McCain campaign will do the right thing and stop using our song--and start asking artists' permission in general!"
The statement noted this isn't the first time McCain has been asked to stop using a song. Heart, John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne and Van Halen have all voiced complaints.
On the flip side, soul legend Sam Moore has asked Sen. Barack Obama's campaign to stop using his hit, "Soul Man."

For personal use only, not for commercial distribution. If the performing artist is against the use of his performance, the user should find a cover version. The songwriter usually has no say in the use of his song as long as royalties are paid.

If I pay iTunes their 99 cents, I can do whatever I want with the song, and play it whenever I want. McCain can play whatever songs he wants. Good for him

While we're on the subject. One of the stupidest use of a song I've seen was the use of "American Woman" at a republican rally. I guess nobody realized that it is a War Protest Song from the Viet Nam era.

CowboyBarBoss Wow, dude, you sound bitter. I am on the side of the "junkies" and I don't feel like offing myself. You ever hear of "copyright"? You need to get a job and put the bottle down.

if they PAID for the rights, they should be able to use them as they please... heart, for example, does not own the rights to their songs and they should have shut their pie hole about the usage by someone who PADI for the use... probably the same deal her, but i'm not sure... if you pay - PLAY...

Does it matter? Of course it matters. Well it does unless you have no regard for the laws of the land.

These singers can't say anything if they don't own the rights to these songs so take a look and realize that the campaigns did by the rights from the company that owns them .. sorry if these singers/ groups don't like it but really who cares anymore when things are such a mess elsewhere .
