Happy Birthday, King of Pop! Jacko's 50

Scandal, Surgery, Creative Drought ... Can His Career Rebound?

(Aug. 22) - It's been a rough decade for Michael Jackson. There was the child abuse trial, countless bizarre public appearances (don't drop Blanket!), deepening cash flow woes -- which nearly cost him Neverland -- and of course, the cringe-inducing changes to his famed visage.
It's safe to say Jackson's forties won't go down as his best era, but there's new hope on the horizon: the troubled King of Pop turns 50 (50!) on Aug. 29 and he's said to be working on a new batch of songs. Take a Click Down Memory Lane:

Have all the scandals and ghoulish makeovers ruined Jacko's chances at making a creative comeback at middle age?
A solid album from Jackson would be a welcome event, "but the likelihood of reviving his career without a tour is very slim," Spin editor Doug Brod remarked to USA Today. "And pictures of him in a wheelchair don't make you think, 'There's a guy ready to perform 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' for 240 nights.'"
Birthdays often lead to moments of reflection, so it's fair to ask whether Jackson's musical triumphs have been permanently overshadowed by his shambolic personal life. After semi-officially setting out on his own in 1979, Jackson cranked out three hit-gushing albums: "Off the Wall" (1979), "Thriller" (1982), and "Bad" (1987). The 1990s weren't as kind, with a round of child sex abuse allegations in 1993 that took the luster off his comeback album, "Dangerous."
His most recent album, 2001's "Invincible," was a poor-selling money pit and there has been nothing but bizarre behavior and scandals since.

i think his confidence and everything else went down the drain after the skin disease. and for all of those who dont know in a pepsi comercial he was burned and from that he got a skin disease and it started with his hand and it turned white and thats why he ***** gloves. and then it spread all over. and i dont know why he tried to cover it up with lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, and a whack nose job. it's all pitiful.

He used to be so hot.It makes me wonder if he believes he looks good after all of them surgeries. He doesn't even look real anymore. In some the pics that I looked at he looked more like a woman. It is so sad that someone who has had it all feels so poorly about himself that he would want to completely change himself. If someone that was so loved by millions felt the pressure that badly, it makes it hard to imagine what the average young person is feeling about themselves.

To Boca569:With all due respect, I grew up with people who had this disease and this is not the skin dease that he claims to have. What then would be the explanation for his narrowing nose and thinning lips? It's bleach...clear and simple. And those children are no more his kids than mine. Inside that bleached body lies the dna of an African American man and those kids are pure white. Its a shame. Such talent gone so wierd. And don't bother with any attacks of racism. I am an African American woman and an original J5 fan from 1969 through the 80s.
