(Sept. 8) - Russell Brand's obsession with the Jonas Brothers and their proud ownership of sexytime-thwarting "promise rings" drew groans from the VMA crowd on Sunday night and even sparked a feud of sorts with former "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks.

Brand, a comedian said to be popular in his native Britain, began poking fun at the Bros early on in the show for their decision to abstain from sex until marriage. With millions of screaming girls at their disposal, he argued, they should be up to their necks in dates. Watch Video
Sparks, a fellow ring bearer, took issue with Brand's flippant stance on abstinence and told the audience how she felt.
"I just have one thing to say about promise rings," Sparks said on stage. "It's not bad to wear a promise ring, because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut."

Brand later tried to apologize.
"I didn't meant to take it lightly," he said of promise rings. "I don't want to piss off teenage fans."
"Promise rings, I'm well up for it. [But] a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody."
Later at a party, Sparks defended her speech. "Somebody had to do it."
But Sparks went on to later clarify what she meant by her statement.
"I wish I would've worded it differently -- that somebody who doesn't wear a promise ring isn't necessarily a slut -- but I can't take it back now. It was a split-second thing, and it came out kind of wrong. Still, I don't regret it," the singer tells Entertainment Weekly.

Chastity for ur self and ur future husband takes away SO MANY issues that sex entales. For most, sex complicates ur ability to judge bc feelings r usually involved and when feeling are NOT involved, just hormones, U REALLY HAVE A PROBLEM ON UR HANDS! No young girl should be doing it just bc she has the urge. Sex does not = Love. The ultimate expresssion of love is SACRIFICE. To withhold sex and focus on the RELATIIONSHIP shows what u r looking 4. If someone isnt thinking of FOREVER with you, why are u sharing ur body with them? Sex is EASY, Love & Committment are for the Big Dogs...the Puppies can stay in the kennel til they r ready!Type your own comment here

Abstinence isnt unrealistic if you've been RAISED in a household that discusses sex candidly and how it ties into your relationship with God. if ur dont have a strong belief in the Bible and following the word, of course we can just say its a mothers job to tell her to practice safe sex! Way 2 go mom! Roll the dice on ur kids! I wasnt given an OPTION that "in case" I did it...It was one way: DONT DO IT til you get married!" . PERIOD! My mom talked about the urges, the pressure, the tricks boys play & as I got older she was FRANK about everything! Parents want to TIP TOE around the topic as if not talking about it 2 much will make it go away or keep the kids from thinking abt it! PLZ! nature makes u start thinking abt it WAY b4 mommy can warn u abt it!

Kids r too easily influenced for the comedian to be making such on going jokes abt a serious topic. He shoudl hav know when to shut up. They are still TEENS so some jokes should be off limits out of respect for the kids and the teen that admire and follow them. A joke is a joke but in the right context and in the right setting..not in a room filled with fans of teh JB who in this day and age of pantiless celebs and multi-hook-ups, the comedian should have been complimenting their stand. Hes jaded and an jacka** who hopefully doesnt have any kids!

It's also unrealistic to expect toddlers to stay out of the street, yet we don't just slap a helmet on them and tell them to be careful. Our kids won't live up any higher than the lowest standard we set for them.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ErinBliss Teens maintaining their virginity is a lovely thing. Unfortunately the whole abstinence thing is pretty unrealistic.

It's not unrealistic at all. It's just that, sadly, people have absurdly low expectations for teens.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Princessba841190 10:33 PMSep 12 2008 Let's just put it simply: Jordin Sparks comment was a little harsh, not everyone to has sex before marriage is a ****. Russel was just playing around. And let's hope, since that abstinence is way off the realistic mark,

Good for her!! I'm sick to DEATH of all these actors and singers and the way they live and try to thrust it on EVERYONE out there. I t's 'okay' to get knocked up and hae a baby before marriage. It's 'okay' to have as many partners as possible. It's 'okay' for two females to make out on stage. It's all 'okay', right? I feel SO sorry for our youth (and I'm not that old, 38!) and what they have to face in their adult life. A world where everyone has run amok, because it's all 'okay' and you should do what makes you feel good. Though I'm thinking if all these hollywood ***** (thank you Jordan!) really looked deep into themselves, they're not the happy go lucky people they pretend to be. They know what's right and wrong, they're just so screwed up they can't get there. It's sad.

She was a little harsh. I understand she got on the defensive but it was a little harsh. I now believe in abstinence and celibacy. I'm in my 30's and have been celibate since 10/2005. I made this decision to devote myself to God and to starting over. It allowed me to find myself and clear my thoughts. I feel refreshed and clearheaded. I was married for 10 yrs. I do not date and I've found other things more important to do with my time. Hobbies. Things that I enjoy and love. Sex is no longer a priority. Whenever I do choose to find a mate and get married again. Then I'll know I'll be ready: Mind, body and soul.

And let's hope, since that abstinence is way off the realistic mark, that teen's just have SAFE sex. = n=; Geez. We don't need new babies running around or teen's with STD's and stuff. That's just horrible. D:
