Tavis Smiley has authored 16 books, hosted eponymous TV and radio shows, established a foundation to help others, produced documentaries, helped to bring the topic of poverty to mainstream awareness and is a small company CEO. And he's only beginning to make his mark in what is already an incredible career.

Creator.

Contributor.

Caretaker.

Conversationalist.

Can you imagine what more this accomplished and concerned profesional will achieve in the coming decades?

One reviewer put it this way:

He does what too little of talk radio or television does these days: conducts civil conversations with a broad spectrum of politicians, newsmakers, performers and writers in a forum where one first has to declare one's political alliances. He's comfortable with conservatives, liberals, and the undeclared; with the profound and the profane, with elder statesmen and the hip-hop nation... he provides one place that helps promote dialogues that might not otherwise take place before audiences who might not otherwise think that they have anything in common.

Take it from me, it's not easy to do. But he makes it look that way. It's why I have trusted Tavis to host my former CNN show on several occasions. It's never about him. It's about the guests, the topic, the discussion. Getting people to talk about what needs to be heard is an art Tavis has mastered.

It's a tribute to Tavis, and his reputation, that the highest-caliber guests want to be interviewed by him: presidents, thinkers, seekers, artists and doers of all kinds. What you might not know is that he quietly helps others. In thought and deed, he is the personification of a role model.

Tavis Smiley is a STAR.

10 Years, 2,000 shows and still the best conversation in late night!

The 67-year-old actorsuffered the stroke at his Los Angeles home and while there were few details available, sources close to the actor denied that the stroke has impaired his ability to speak and his longtime agent, Marcia Hurwitz, told the U.K. paper, "Tim is doing great. He absolutely can speak and is recovering at this time and in great humor."

The British actor is best known for his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," a role that he originated in the 1973 and 1974 London and Los Angeles stage productions of "The Rocky Horror Show." Curry went on to appear in many TV, film and theater roles over the years, but was forced to pull out of a 2011 production of "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern Aare Dead" at the Chichester Festival after he suffered from asthma attacks and a chest infection.

"Personally, I think that sexy is keeping yourself mysterious" Stevie Nicks told Rolling Stone in 2002. "I'm really an old-fashioned girl, and I think I'm totally sexy."

Well, there you have it. For over 40 years, Ms. Nicks has embodied bohemian mystique, fronting Fleetwood Mac and pursuing a solo career in billowing sleeves, Victorian lace and dark, draping stage costumes. The singer joined Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974 and quickly became known for her Grammy award-winning raspy vocals. (Ever heard of a little album called "Rumours"?)

Nicks achieved her memorable aesthetic with the help of stylist Margi Kent, who designed most of her epic ensembles. The costumes are works of art in and of themselves and have been exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and DC's National Museum of Women in the Arts, among others.

In honor of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's birthday today (May 26), we're taking a look back at Nicks' memorable -- and sexy -- style. Click through the slideshow below and tell us your favorites.

CANNES, France — The annual Cannes festival on the French Riviera is the grandest platform in the world for the highest ambitions of film, a place where the art form is worshipped with wild passion and adoring reverence. Movies are projected pristinely in regal theaters, where they're greeted by the world's cinephiles with feverish excitement.

But even at this bastion of the big screen, director after director has come through preaching the opportunities of the small screen. Up and down the Croisette, talk of TV's ascendance is rampant.

"The way that things are moving because of the financing of films, television has almost become where a lot of people seek creativity," said Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, who premiered at the festival his Bangkok noir "Only God Forgives," starring Ryan Gosling. "It's opened up a whole new arena."

Danish TV's current quality has spread internationally (including "The Killing," which was remade in America). Refn, the director of "Drive," is working on his television debut, a version of the 1969 French science fiction film "Barbarella" for France's Canal Plus.

Refn said that in the past 10 years, TV has leveled the field, creatively, and is now "sometimes much more satisfying than anything around."

"I love television," he said. "I love the size of it. I love to touch them. I like to watch them. I love the remote control. I love the power of the remote control. I love everything about the television."

One of this year's most notable films in competition won't even be released theatrically in the U.S.: Steven Soderbergh's Liberace melodrama "Behind the Candelabra." Hollywood studios passed on the film, which stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, suggesting that it was too gay to play at the box office. HBO picked up the $23 million film and will air it Sunday.

Soderbergh, long considered one of America's finest filmmaking talents, is stepping away from moviemaking, but is enthusiastically moving into television. He'll reportedly make a 10-episode series about a turn-of-the-century New York hospital, starring Clive Owen. (Soderbergh also produced the 2003 Washington, D.C., drama "K Street.")

"There's a lot of great stuff being made," said Soderbergh. "You can go narrow and deep, and I like that. And this is all ("Sopranos" creator) David Chase. He single-handedly rebuilt the landscape. Anything that's on now that's any good is standing on his shoulders."

"I don't hear anybody talking about movies the way they talk about TV right now," said Soderbergh.

But Cannes remains one of the great arguments for the vibrancy of movies. Year after year, it gathers together many of the world's best films, and this year's festival, the 66th, has been no different in that respect.

Audiences have been wowed by the Coen brothers' wry melancholy ("Inside Llewyn Davis"), the classical skillfulness of James Gray ("The Immigrant"), the shambling grandeur of Paolo Sorrentino ("The Great Beauty") and many other sensory feasts. At Cannes, cinema is utterly alive.

But there are economic forces at work that have contributed to the shift. As audiences have becoming increasingly fractured, studios have concentrated more on enormous blockbusters. While advances in film equipment have made making a movie easier, getting it seen has become harder.

Director James Toback premiered at Cannes his "Seduced and Abandoned," a documentary he made with Alec Baldwin. The two filmed their sometimes humiliating efforts to find financing – and the necessary marketing budget – for an adult drama. With appearances from Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese and Roman Polanski, the movie often feels like a funeral for the days of popular, dangerous movies.

"The movie business is tough, and it's tougher now than ever," said Baldwin, who largely stepped out of film to star in Tina Fey's acclaimed sitcom "30 Rock." "Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever make another movie again."

"Seduced and Abandoned," fittingly, was picked up not for theatrical release, but by HBO. (The network will also broadcast another film at Cannes playing out of competition, Stephen Frears' documentary "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight.")

David Fincher's entry to television with the political thriller "House of Cards" for Netflix sent reverberations through the business, partly because Fincher is such a widely respected filmmaker.

But talent is increasingly flocking to TV because of acclaimed shows like "Mad Men," "Downton Abbey," "Girls," "Breaking Bad" and many others. The medium allows for more novelistic storytelling and, often, greater exposure.

"It's nice for actors because more people see it," said Kristin Scott Thomas, who stars in "Only God Forgives." "You can spend weeks and weeks and weeks making a film that very few people will see, and that's sort of dispiriting."

"It's very satisfying when millions see something," she added. "It's as simple as that."

Not everyone, though, endorsed TV at Cannes. The 87-year-old Jerry Lewis barked: "Never watch television, if you can help it." Henri Behar, the moderator of Lewis' press conference, noted that that was an appropriate sentiment at a film festival.

Courtney Love and LeAnn Rimes might not seem like the most likely of friends, but apparently the two are close enough for the rocker to say, "If you f**k with her, you f**k with me."

Earlier this week, Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas tweeted that anyone who gives Rimes a hard time should be "embarrassed." Then on Thursday, Love chimed in and defended Rimes against the haters with a no-so-subtle tweet.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"align=center>
@thisisrobthomas @leannrimes send the trouble makers to me, I eat that shit for breakfast. Leanns my girl,u fuck with her you fuck with me!
— Courtney Love Cobain (@Courtney) May 23, 2013

The country singer responded, saying she loves them both.

It is unclear if either Love or Thomas has any idea that Rimes has an ongoing feud with reality TV star Brandi Glanville. The feud between Rimes and Glanville reignited on Mother's Day and sizzled Monday when Glanville told Rimes to "mind her own business" when it comes to issues involving Glanville's ex-husband, Eddie Cibrian, and their children, E! News notes.

In an apparent attempt to rise above the drama, Rimes tweeted Monday that she is over the pettiness (which may have been why Thomas offered his support in the first place).

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"align=center>
Name calling and twitter rants are so 2012. Music and truth is so 2013. #spitfirejune4
— LeAnn Rimes Cibrian (@leannrimes) May 23, 2013

Tension between the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star and Rimes developed back in 2009 when Rimes and Cibrian (Glanville's husband at the time) had an affair. To this day, Rimes insists she is sorry for how the affair played out.

"I've definitely asked for forgiveness on a daily basis," the 30-year-old told "Entertainment Tonight" Wednesday. "We are human beings who are going to sin and make mistakes, and if you have that connection, for me, is something that I feel is bigger than me, it's not something that's unusual to do."

"I feel like so many people have written the story that they think will sell a magazine," she added, "or the story that they want to believe, but it's so 180 of what has been written."

Memo to everyone: Don't mess with Chief Keef because he'll majorly overreact and get down right scary.

The 17-year-old rapper is no stranger to criticism, but it seems he just couldn't deal with Katy Perry's distaste for one of his songs.

On Wednesday, the 28-year-old pop star tweeted, "Just heard a new song on the radio called ‘I hate being sober’ I now have serious doubt for the world."

Days after Perry dissed the song, the rapper responded with some choice words:

Dat bitch Katy Perry Can Suck Skin Off Of my Dick
— AlmightySo (@ChiefKeef) May 23, 2013

Ill Smack The Shit out her ✋
— AlmightySo (@ChiefKeef) May 23, 2013

After Keef threatened to assault the pop star, he then threatened to take things to the studio and record a new track aimed at Perry:

New Song Katy Perry Coming Soon
— AlmightySo (@ChiefKeef) May 23, 2013

With all those lovely messages Keef had for the singer, Perry realized she clearly didn't want to further antagonize a man who raps about threatening to murder a woman who refuses to perform oral sex on him, and was accused of hiring a hit on a fellow rapper. As such, it's not surprising that Perry quickly apologized for her comments about his song "Hate Being Sober."

Mr. Keef! I'm sorry if I offended you. I heard a lot of people guesting on the song & didn't even know it was you in particular. Actually...
— Katy Perry (@katyperry) May 24, 2013

I'm a fan of your "Don't Like" video tbh. I was really just having a general opinion on our generations desire to be constantly intoxicated.
— Katy Perry (@katyperry) May 24, 2013

Believe me, I'm a lover not a hater. x
— Katy Perry (@katyperry) May 24, 2013

It seems like Perry's apology did the trick, because Keef even apologized for his threats as well:

@katyperry Oh 😕 Im Sorry Too Then 😔
— AlmightySo (@ChiefKeef) May 24, 2013

"The Hangover Part III" isn't like "The Hangover" or "The Hangover Part II" because it doesn't actually include any hangovers. While the first two films in the $1 billion franchise retraced the events of one crazy night in the lives of the Wolfpack (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis), "The Hangover Part III" finds the three heroes using their wiles to find Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong), master criminal and mad man.

Why does the structure of "The Hangover Part III" differ from the previous films? Because of "The Hangover Part II," which was savaged by critics as a pale imitation of "The Hangover."

"[We were] very conscious of [that]," Cooper, who plays Phil in the series, told HuffPost Entertainment. "Just as conscious as we were the second time of adhering to the structure. I think that maybe, in retrospect, people say that ['Part II' didn't work], but if you had deviated from this formula the second movie, it wouldn't have been as successful. I think that we had part two with the structure, and with the third one, we could rely upon the audience's engagement with the characters to drive the narrative."

For director Todd Phillips, however, the decision to change things up for "Part III" wasn't so easy. In fact, he thought of doing another traditional "Hangover" adventure with the Wolfpack just to anger the critics of his franchise.

"The way that we would respond to those critics -- what we really wanted to do was do another wake-up movie," he told Vanity Fair in a recent online interview. "But we thought that that would be short-sighted because we had this other idea. The real response we wanted to do was, 'They wake up in Rio and this, that, and the other thing happened to them.'"

Instead of devoting an entire movie to his detractors, Phillips instead used the film's end-credits sequence to make his statement. "If you stay through the credits, you’ll see in typical 'Hangover' fashion we have another big credit moment that I think everyone will enjoy," he said. "The criticisms were really about the structure -- they didn't know how this could happen to the same guys twice. 'Who would ever have a night like that twice?' So we were like, 'Oh yeah? It's going to happen three times. F--k you.'"

"The Hangover Part III" is out now.

The only thing worse than your run-of-the-mill wardrobe malfunction is a wardrobe malfunction that happens on live TV. But kudos to Mariah Carey and Lara Spencer, who managed to muddle their way through Mariah's on-camera dress mishap on "Good Morning America" today with loads of grace.

Mariah was wearing a shimmering Versace gown on stage when... well, we'll let Mariah explain it herself:

Mariah: "Oh shoot, now the back of my dress just popped."

Lara: "It popped?" [Checks Mariah's back.]

Mariah: "It popped! I love you, Donatella, but it popped, darling. Wait a minute, hold on..."

Lara, to the crowd: "How psyched are you guys to see Mariah, dress or no dress?"

Mariah: "You know, I just wanted to change the ensemble. It's just that..." [Turns to show the crowd her back.] "This pop, is it gonna fall?" [Stagehand goes to fix her dress.] "OK, both of them are out now."

Lara: "I'm gonna hold this right there!" [Grabs at Mariah's chest.] "This is live TV..."

Mariah: "What should we call this? The Central Park Saga?"

Lara: "I dare say this is a TV moment."

We dare say it was. Check out the incident in the hilarious video below. Also, we nominate Lara to be the first exclusive wardrobe malfunction reporter. She would totally own this beat.

WATCH:

At least these weren't caught on TV:

With hoards of paparazzi, smart phones and increasingly savvy social networks, the red carpet has become a minefield of sorts. Celebrities are never truly safe from the watchful eyes of the global media (just ask Julianne Moore).

But it wasn't always this way. Liv Tyler addresses this new Hollywood ethos -- specifically the requirement of professional help with hair, makeup and styling -- in her recent interview with Into The Gloss. Beauty norms have shifted significantly since the actress shot to fame in the '90s, and Liv is well aware of the ever-rising standards:

"Everything has changed so much in fashion and beauty since the '90s, when I was starting out ... I would go to things all the time where I did my own hair and makeup. Or, when I did 'Inventing the Abbotts' with Joaquin Phoenix, we were dating at the time, and I threw on this red Prada dress with my weird vintage coat for the premiere."

The "Empire Records" star wasn't alone in her approach. Many of her very famous contemporaries didn't seem to bend over backwards to please others:

"I remember Gwyneth [Paltrow] came to the premiere for 'Armageddon' and danced with me at the after-party and she had no makeup on, this little slip dress and no bra and maybe flip-flops. It was just a different time. There weren’t as many paparazzi, the red carpets weren’t what they are now -- there’s a lot of scrutiny going on and the maintenance is intense! Think about seeing Julia Roberts on the red carpet in the late 80s and early 90s in a suit with no makeup on, and that was OK. I sort of miss those days a little bit."

We have to agree with Liv on this one. These days, if a celeb has a loose button or a single hair out of place, the entire world knows about it. Stars have even turned to outing themselves when it comes to fashion faux pas that would otherwise go unnoticed (thank you, Sofia Vergara's Twitter). And if an actress suffers a full-blown wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet, you can bet the online world will be buzzing within minutes.

With all of this scrutiny, however, we do lose a bit of the style serendipity that made the pre-2000s such a veritable treasure trove of unique looks. So to celebrate Liv's nostalgia, check out the aforementioned braless Gwyneth get-up, one of Ms. Roberts' old school ensembles and Liv herself back in the day. How great do these ladies look without all of the bells and whistles of today?

Gwyneth Paltrow at the "Armageddon" premiere in 1998:

Julia Roberts at the "Miss Firecracker" premiere in 1989:

Liv Tyler at the "Inventing the Abbotts" premiere in 1997:

Clearly, a lot has changed...

If the latest reports about Jennifer Hudson and "American Idol" are any indication, Season 13 of the long-running Fox reality series could see the all-alumni...

If the latest reports about Jennifer Hudson and "American Idol" are any indication, Season 13 of the long-running Fox reality series could see the all-alumni judges panel rumors become a reality.

Vulture reports that Jennifer Hudson's deal to become an "American Idol" judge is "essentially done," while a source told The Wrap that "she got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [the show's production company] Fremantle."

Season 12 judges Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson are already out for next season, and The Wrap previously reported that remaining newbie judges Mariah Carey and Keith Urban are leaving the panel as well.

If Hudson -- who was a contestant on Season 3 of "Idol" -- does take Fox up on their reported offer, her choice will be an interesting one. In January, she said it was time for "Idol" to come to an end, noting "everything has its time." "I’m proud to have come from 'American Idol,' so I just say, go out on top," Hudson added.

Earlier this week, Vulture reported that Hudson and Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson had already been approached judging Season 13 of "American Idol," while Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken's names were both in the mix. But don't expect to see Clarkson on the panel next year: A rep for the former champ told The Hollywood Reporter that she will not be judging Season 13.

Would you want to see an "Idol" alumni panel? Sound off in the comments.
