Dec 25th 2009 11:05AMMaybe they're wrong about how long people lived. People that live a generally clean life live longer than others. No drugs, no drunkeness, no sexual promiscuity, and moderation in habits (all of these bing Christian virtues) eliminates a lot of causes of premature death. Contrast that with the pagans and all their drunken orgies as being religious rites and you're going to see a big difference in lifespans.
Dec 25th 2009 10:55AMThe Council of Nicea settled nothing. With only 6% of the possible bishops present Constantine imposed his decision in favor of the Alexandrians. Later Councils with greater attendance of the bishops would appropriately anathematize the teaching of the Alexandrian trinitarians. Constantine himself converted to Arian trinitarianism and was baptized by an Arian bishop. Eusebius the church historian was himself a believer in the created nature of the Son and was therefor never recognized as a saint by the Alexandrian faction. Eusebius is the only major reference anyone has to the controversies of the day.
