How to Navigate Washington, D.C. Without Going Nuts {Gadling}

Jul 16th 2011 8:12PM

If you're a VISITOR to DC and you bring your car, you may pay as much as $30 per night for hotel parking, and a small fortune on street parking in touristy areas IF you can find parking. During peak periods, a car-bound tourist can circle popular zones for an hour and not find a place to ditch the car. A bike is NOT an option for a family, the elderly, the handicapped, or people who are toting around luggage or shopping bags. So what do you do? HAIL A CAB! The cabbies will get you where you need to go quickly, help with your bags, have air conditioning, and in the end you will save a LOT of time and trouble, costing the same or less as accommodating your car. The cabbies are everywhere, and they can answer your questions about what's good/bad in town better than your iphone.

Look Ma! Reagan Daughter Patti Davis Poses Nude (Again) at 58 {PopEater}

May 19th 2011 11:44PM

Good for her. The haters out there are just jealous. She's 58, for crying out loud, she's not a rebellious 19 year old. I don't think there's a human being on earth harmed by these photos. If anything, she gives other mature adults something to strive for or simply give a nod of approval. If I had a daughter, I'd hope she take good enough care of herself to be able to pose for tasteful nude photos when she's 58.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP7: New Digital Camera Whitens Teeth, Erases Wrinkles and Applies Makeup {StyleList (Main)}

Mar 23rd 2011 11:22AM

What the camera's built-in app lacks is a "subtlety" feature. Among other things, I retouch photos for a living. An obvious or overdone product is more of a distraction than an asset. This automated touch-up process needs a feature where you "dial back" from the finished to the original on a sliding scale (PhotoShop itself has this: after you apply a filter, you can fade the effect back by a chosen percentage). The before pictures in the article are pretty good to begin with, but if the retouching process could be applied 30% instead of the full 100% you would have some improvement without the wax mannaquin effect. It's not a bad technology, it's just being overapplied. Put a dotcom at the end of my name to see my work.
