Mar 15th 2011 5:05PMFor my teen son, we openly discussed alcohol. We allowed him to have a drink if he wanted one and told him if he were to drink outside the home, he could call us at any time to come get him. Like most teenagers, he's been to parties and drank, but would always have a designated driver. Now that he's in college, he's been to Italy where the legal drinking age is 16 and seen how taboo the U.S. is about allowing under age drinking. He's a mature young man who will drink on occasion, but because it wasn't made into such a big deal, he didn't feel the need to rebel and do something stupid.
The key to this issue, as well as other sensitive issues, is open communication. Parents have to talk to their teens about alcohol, drugs, sex and any other subject that their child may have. If not, they will go to someone who may or may not be educated or informed about the given subject.
Jan 26th 2011 4:44PMYou have to respect that everyone has the right to choose what is seen in their establishment. Just because someone is conservative in their veiwpoint, it doesn't make them dumb or backward. Those who are "hating" need to get a grip! When haters spew nastiness as some have regarding this matter, it shows everyone who really is narraw, backward and dumb.
Take a breath and relax. If you own a business, it's your discretion as to what you display publicly.
