About to Pop: Jay Sean

Posted Nov 23rd 2009 5:20PM By: Ashley Iasimone

Jay Sean

Who:
Jay Sean
Album: 'All or Nothing'
Video: 'Down'
Hails From: London
For Fans Of: Chris Brown, Craig David

Why He's About to Pop: Since embarking on his career in music, Jay Sean has dropped a handful of singles and two albums, and already toured extensively, performing for audiences at sold out shows worldwide. Sean's international success soon caught the attention of US record executive Ronald "Slim" Williams. Now, Sean is signed to a multi-album recording contract with Universal's Cash Money Records -- home to Lil Wayne, who collaborated with Sean on his No. 1 pop/R&B hit, 'Down' -- and is set to release his new album, 'All or Nothing.'

"Wayne is a huge inspiration, man," Sean tells PopEater. "I mean, just watching him at work and watching him on the video set and everything was super inspiring, 'cause that guy has got so much energy and is such a pro. You can just tell he's been in it for years, and he just doesn't stop grinding."

Sean has been keeping just as busy as Wayne -- 'All Or Nothing' is out on Nov. 24, and the singer is on tour in the US through December. "I'm all heart," Sean says. "I take risks and I go with my gut. Music is my passion, and I just had to give it a go. Otherwise, I don't think I'd ever be able to live with myself. Luckily, it's been working out great for me so far."

'Glee' Cast Dish On 'Glee' Album -- Exclusive Video

Posted Nov 19th 2009 4:10PM By: Michael D. Ayers

Glee RachelIt's no secret that everyone loves the music in 'Glee' -- and 'Glee, The Music, Volume 1' has been quite a popular fall release. And how could it not be? It runs the gamut from the Supremes' 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' and Young MC's eternal club hit 'Bust a Move' to REO Speedwagon's 'Can't Fight This Feeling.' But what's made the soundtrack even more successful -- besides the way that the music incorporates itself into the plot lines -- is that it poaches from the last forty years of pop music, giving a little bit for everyone.

Beyonce & Lady Gaga's Eyeball Popping 'Video Phone'

Watching Beyonce and Lady Gaga's music video 'Video Phone' made us dizzy because of the eyeball-popping colors and head-spinning edits. Honestly, watching it might be harmful to your health. (And what's with the duo manhandling AK-47s?) But interestingly enough, Lady Gaga is toned down and looks, dare we say, normal.

About to Pop: Justin Bieber

Posted Nov 16th 2009 5:00PM By: Ashley Iasimone

Justin Bieber

Who:
Justin Bieber
Album: 'My World'
Video: 'One Less Lonely Girl'
Hails From: Ontario, Canada
For Fans Of: Jesse McCartney, Justin Timberlake

Why He's About to Pop: When Justin Bieber visited PopEater last spring, we already had a feeling that the young singer was on the cusp of hitting it big. Although it was an early promotional appearance, Bieber impressed the staff with his confident attitude and talent, and his back story wasn't too shabby, either. The 15-year-old musician made a name for himself with homemade videos on YouTube, sparked a bidding war between Justin Timberlake and Usher -- who then landed him a record deal -- and built a growing fanbase via the Internet.

It's safe to say Bieber has since created an even greater buzz with a handful of catchy hit singles, including 'One Time,' 'One Less Lonely Girl,' 'Love Me' and 'Favorite Girl.' The singer has already presented at the VMAs, scheduled tour dates with Taylor Swift and made several TV appearances. Most recently, Bieber tells PopEater that he penned a song that he wants Diddy to record -- the two even hung out together, so that he could play it for him.

With things falling into place so quickly, Bieber has become quite the teen idol. But he seems poised to take it all in like a pro. The singer's debut album, 'My World,' is set to be released on Nov. 17, and he credits his success to his eager supporters, whom he says have made his dreams come true. "It seems like every day there is something new and exciting happening. I can't even begin to number them," Bieber tells PopEater. "Just to be able to make music and share it with the fans is pretty exciting."

'Glee' Cast Dish on Musical Influences, Satan's Gift to Earth

Posted Nov 10th 2009 7:35PM By: Michael D. Ayers

With the arrival of 'Glee: The Music, Volume 1' last week, fans got a chance to get their hands on the entire cast recordings of the hit series music in one handy dandy place. And by iTunes sales alone, we know that their rendition of Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin',' 'Defying Gravity' from the Wicked Score and Queen's 'Somebody to Love' are resonating quite well with Gleek Nation. But what are the Glee stars themselves in to these days? We'll give you some hints: someone's a huge Britney Spears fan, there's a love for Beyonce, Michael Jackson was a cast member's childhood alias and one cast member cites Bob Dylan as a recent favorite. If that's not enough, you'll definitely want to know whose favorite concert was metal act Pantera, of which it was described to us as "Satan's gift to earth."

Watch our exclusive video for the answers to these questions and more details on the musical influences from the entire Glee cast after the jump.

Get Ready for the Kanye Jokes When Taylor Swift Hosts 'SNL'

Posted Nov 5th 2009 7:30AM By: PopEater Staff

Taylor Swift is the host and musical guest this weekend on 'Saturday Night Live,' and promos for the show are already taking shots at Kanye West -- who interrupted the country cutie's MTV VMA win.

"Hey, I'm Taylor Swift and I'll be the host and musical guest this week on 'SNL,'" Swift explains.

"Whoop, Kanye West just called, he thinks Beyonce should host," Bill Hader quips. "Funny joke, right? VMAs!" Watch After the Jump

About to Pop: Jaicko

Posted Nov 2nd 2009 5:45PM By: Ashley Iasimone

Who: Jaicko
Album: 'Can I'
Video: 'Oh Yeah'
Hails From: Barbados
For Fans Of: The Dream, Chris Brown

Why He's About to Pop:
Jaicko's Caribbean-infused pop tunes are just hitting US radio this year, but he's been building his fanbase for years. "
I released a number of songs in Barbados," Jaicko told PopEater. "We have two Top 40 radio stations, and I used to get plugged in between Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z."

The singer, who recently visited PopEater to preview some catchy tunes from his debut album, 'Can I,' might not be asked for as many autographs here in New York just yet, but that's bound to change. Jaicko's first single, 'Oh Yeah,' has already been remixed by Snoop, and for the album tracks that he didn't self-produce, a notable team of producers -- Stargate (Ne-Yo, Beyonce), Rob Allen (Chris Brown, Rihanna) and Jim Jonson (Lil Wayne) -- lent a hand.

"The reason why I decided to name the album 'Can I' was because I was doing music from nine years old. I'm 18 now," Jaicko said. "From then 'til now, I went through a lot of struggles both personally and being in the music industry. That kind of motivated me to write the track. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to it ... I think the world needs a real track like that, coming from someone young." Check out an exclusive interview with Jaicko after the jump, and keep an eye out for his album, which is set to be released this winter.

Who Needs Last Names? Not These Stars

Posted Oct 26th 2009 12:45PM By: Tricia Romano

It used to be that very few stars went by a single name. Madonna started her career as simply Madonna (and good thing too; having to say Madonna Louise Ciccone every time we talked about her would be a mouthful). But over time, and with the advent of more and more gossip magazines and blogs, features like, "Stars -- They're Just Like Us!" -- stars have increasingly become referred to on a first name basis. We've singled out the biggies, starting with ...

Cher
Cher had her last name officially dropped in 1979; in some ways, it was a mere formality: she had been known to most of the general public as Cher since the show 'Sonny and Cher'; and her two given last names, LaPierre and Sarkisan, weren't as simple as Bono. So when she divorced Sonny, it seemed easier to go with Cher.

Beyonce Breaks Silence About Kanye West

Beyonce / Kanye West / Taylor Swift

Beyonce Knowles
is finally speaking out about her loss to Taylor Swift at the VMAs, which prompted Kanye West to storm the stage and steal the young singer's moment after winning Best Female Video. "Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art; and he told me before, when they said the nominees, he's like, 'You have this award,'" Knowles told O: The Oprah Magazine editor-at-large Gayle King (via MTV.)
