Penelope Cruz Dodges Dave's Engagement Questions

Posted Nov 17th 2009 9:36PM By: PopEater Staff

Penelope Cruz is one professional secret keeper, completely thwarting David Letterman's attempts to get her to dish on her status with fellow Oscar winner Javier Bardem. During an appearance on 'The Late Show' on Tuesday night to promote her new movie 'Broken Embraces,' Cruz shrugged off Letterman's line of questioning regarding whether she and Bardem are getting married. When pressed by Letterman, Cruz told him that she doesn't "feel comfortable" talking about such things.

After The National Enquirer reported that David Letterman had been kicked out of his home with wife Regina Lasko over his affairs, a rep for the late-night host has denied the rumor.

"The National Enquirer has it wrong," Letterman's rep Tom Kearney tells the New York Daily News.

Lawyer: Letterman Suspect Was Shopping Screenplay, Not Blackmailing

Posted Nov 10th 2009 1:52PM By: PopEater / Wire Services

A news producer accused of blackmailing David Letterman in exchange for keeping quiet about his sexual affairs was only trying to sell the late-night comic a screenplay, the producer's lawyer said at a hearing Tuesday. Robert J. "Joe" Halderman's attorney asked a Manhattan judge to dismiss the attempted first-degree grand larceny charge.

Gerald Shargel said that Halderman was merely trying to sell Letterman a screenplay when he approached him with the package left in Letterman's car.

"There was no extortion. There was a screenplay for sale," Shargel said. There was a commercial transaction. Nothing more."

The Most Shocking Celebrity Sex Scandals

Posted Oct 31st 2009 10:00AM By: Brenna Ehrlich

First Mackenzie Phillips tells us she was keeping it in the family with her Mamas & the Papas papa, then it turns out David Letterman was mixing business with a whole lot of pleasure. Celebrity sex scandals have taken a weird turn this fall, and that's saying a lot -- it takes a heck of a gossip mag-scorcher to knock Joe America out of his cozy La-Z-boy. Still, sex scandals have been de rigeur in Hollywood since before Charlie Chaplin took that paternity test. For your curiosity, PopEater breaks down some of the most salacious moments in the Tinseltown's spotted romantic history.

Former Female Staffer Alleges Sexism at 'Letterman' Office

David Letterman

It's common knowledge that the comedy writing business is still a boys' club, but a woman's uphill climb in the writers' room is more steep than you might realize. A new article in Vanity Fair, written by former 'Letterman' staffer Nell Scovell, points out: "At this moment, there are more females serving on the United States Supreme Court than there are writing for 'Late Show with David Letterman,' 'The Jay Leno Show,' and 'The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.' Out of the 50 or so comedy writers working on these programs, exactly zero are women."

Is Jay Leno Ripping Off Howard Stern?

Posted Oct 20th 2009 5:04PM By: Jo Piazza

It is never a good idea to go upsetting Howard Stern, but Jay Leno managed to get himself in the 'King of All Media's cross hairs last week. Stern ripped the NBC talk show host a new one on his morning Sirius radio show last Tuesday, accusing Jay of stealing one of his bits. Leno had invited NFL commentator Terry Bradshaw onto his show to square off against a chicken in choosing the week's football winners. Cute idea, except it was a bit Howard began doing years ago, first with a chicken and then with a monkey.

Join PopEater as we take a look back at the way we were, both before and after the boy was in the balloon, but then he really wasn't, and for some reason we're still paying attention to him.

Tina Fey 'Couldn't Give' Virginity Away

Posted Oct 15th 2009 7:04AM By: PopEater Staff

Tina Fey was on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' to talk about her Emmy-winning show '30 Rock' coming back, and somehow, talk quickly diverted to an article on when Fey lost her virginity (she was 24, if you really need to know). During the conversation, Fey admitted that it wasn't so much a moral choice as it was "being homely." Watch the awkwardly funny video below!

We have to admit, he did look a little bloated and his face didn't really move, but we're leaving up to our faithful readers.

With friends like Al Roker, who needs enemies...

Jay Leno, the host of 'The Jay Leno Show', played a series of clips showing Vieira's early days in broadcasting. He ended with the most revealing -- a fully-exposed (photoshopped, of course) still of the female anchor on the 'Naked News,' leaving little to the imagination.

Letterman Finds Formula for Beating Leno: Sex, Blackmail, Jokes

Posted Oct 7th 2009 7:41AM By: PopEater Staff

David Letterman may not be having the best week in his personal life, but ratings wise, 'The Late Show' host has got to be smiling. Around 5.7 million people tuned in on Monday to hear Letterman apologize to his wife for, oh you know, sleeping with numerous staffers over the years. According to CBS, that's a 36 percent increase in viewership from the previous Monday. It's also a 19 percent jump on the 2009-2010 season-to-date average for the talk show of 4.8 million viewers.

Daily Variety has reported that Letterman's ratings bested anything that NBC had on Monday in prime time, including 'Heroes' and Jay Leno, Dave's old rival. 'The Jay Leno Show' pulled in 4.3 million viewers that night. Letterman was always in second place behind Leno when he hosted 'The Tonight Show.'
